Cake Poll: How Do You Eat A Cupcake?

Win them!
Musing over methods of snack-eating is practically an American pastime. There have been ad campaigns centered on how people eat Reese's Peanut Butter Cups; there have been studies on the characteristics associated with various methods of Oreo-eating.

But now, it's time to attack the sweetest treat of all: the cupcake. Tell us how you eat yours in the comment section, and you'll be entered to win a completely awesome prize pack, which will include:

-------------------------------

How do you eat yours?
How do you eat yours?
Do you eat it with a knife and fork, pinkies out?
Do you tear it in half and discard the bottom so as to increase the frosting-to-cake ratio?
Do you invert it, sandwich-style, to keep your fingers free of frosting?
Do you eat yours with a spoon, served in a dish of milk?
...Or do you just dig in?
Can't wait to read your responses! A winner will be chosen at random shortly after the cake poll closes at noon (12 p.m. PST) on Friday, May 15.

A nice cup of tea (or a good frothy coffee if I'm in a cupcake cafe!) - then I removed the wrapper, remove the top half, eat the bottom and then tackle the top half with all the yummy frosting! Delicious :)

You need to eat the cupcake from top to bottom.

First, bite or lick off part of the frosting. (If it's sickly sweet, you can scrape it off. If it's good icing, you just lick the rest off, leaving a bare cupcake.)

Next, eat the top of the cupcake. (This means everything above the wrapper.)

Finally, unwrap the bottom and eat that.

This is a great method for eating a cupcake one-handed, so you can go about your task without getting crumbs anywhere.

The first bite of a cupcake is kind of like kissing someone for the first time. You size him/her up and appreciate the visual presentation first. You might even give them an exploratory sniff. Then you plan the angle of bite/kiss.

A homely but delicious homemade cupcake gets the "straight to the punch" treatment - off with the wrapper, and a big 'ole bite that assures both frosting and cake, getting right to the heart of the taste & texture. In people terms this is the romantic finale kiss in the rain, with the boy/girl next door who you've always been in love with, who you just can't wait any longer to kiss because you've dreamed of it forever. It's passionate and spontaneous, and you might bang teeth a little.

A fancy, schmancy cupcake is like the really hot new date you've spent a night on the town with, and the whole night has been leading up to this moment. Definitely a utensil moment - to really honor the beautiful presentation of the cupcake, where the frosting is so ridiculously perfect it puts the "cake" in cupcake. To be consumed with a sophisticated beverage (high end tea, coffee) and finished with a napkin to the lips. But I'm not above licking my finger tip to get the last crumbs!

Remove the non-edible and sit back and enjoy the bliss bite by bite!!

i hold it over my head and bite off the bottom, saving the best part (frosting!) for last

I'm pretty boring, I just peel off the wrapper and dig in! But my sons are funny...they lick all the frosting off the top, take two bites of the cake part and declare that they're done! In lieu of birthday cakes, I should just start putting a scoop of frosting on a plate with a candle in it :)

I just dig right in! I have to have some frosting with every bite!

I used the discipline method:)
I spit the cupcake in half and eat the bottom (uniced part) first to enjoy the wonderful cake part, then I reward myself with the top half with ALL the delicious icing!
Have a super day
Blessings

Since there is no "wrong" way to eat a cupcake, I vary my technique depending on the cupcake. I tentatively taste the icing with just a flick of my tongue and if it is a really good icing... I admit I gobble it up first and then wish I had more when I finish the cake. If the icing is just soso, I eat it with the cupcake.

i bite off half of the bottom, and then eat the top part so that there's an equal cake to frosting ratio. you're making me hungry!

Hahaha this is SO my game! Lol

Cupcakes give off vibes... Some cupcakes say "pick me up and eat me!" Some say "you might need a fork!" But most usually say "scrape most of my frosting off before you eat me!"

;D

I totally do it sandwich style!

Great question! I tend to tackle my cupcakes from an angle. This way if I go in from the top I get a little bit of the cake and the frosting together.

I like taking the bottom off, eating that, and then eating the top with all that lovely frosting!

I eat it like I eat a McDonald's cheeseburger - eat the "superfluous" parts first.
With the burger that means bun 1st then meat.
With the cupcake it means bottom first- more cakey bits THEN frosting covered cake.
It's a way to sort of ritually prepare yourself for the awesome that's about to arrive in your mouth.
(I've probably put too much thought into it but I've always done it this way.)
Lately I've been discarding most of the bun of some burgers alltogether and just going for the meat and cheese. Sometimes there's just too much bun and not enough meat. I haven't yet met a cupake where there wasn't at least a sufficient amount of frosting though. (Esp. @ Trophy or Cupcake Royale - and no, I can't choose between the two)

I take off the liner, and if the cupcake has less or more than the perfect 65/35 ratio of cake to frosting, I adjust accordingly. If there is not enough frosting, I take off the cake bottom and eat it first. If there is too much frosting, I use the wrapper to swipe some off.

i bite it from the side, getting some cupcake and some icing together :)

I tear off the liner and eat 2-3 big bites! I'm into instant gratification!

I start at the bottom so I have more frosting left at the end. I like the "sandwich style" idea though and may have to try that!

I split it in half horizontally and eat the bottom part first to enjoy the cake, and then the top with the icing. Unless there is too much icing (can that happen?) on it and then I will it it vertically so the icing is dilluted a little.

I just pull down part of the wrapper and tuck in -- five or six bites later, I wish I had another.

I take off the wrapper off, then I take one large bite of the delicous thing vertically. Then I hover over a garbage can, napkin, whatever I have available, and I turn the cupcake sideways and I take small bites of the cupcake being sure to get the cupcake and the frosting together.

I eat the frosting off and then pass the cake to my best friend. Baked goods are more fun if you share.

I peel off the wrapper and begin eating from a bottom corner. I always make sure that I leave a large bit of icing on the last bite.

I like to slowly remove the liner bite off the top icing and all then give the bottom of my cupcake to someone that is not so special to me.
