Guess what? It's that special time of year when CakeSpy's Head Spy Jessie celebrates her birthday. Booyea!
What does that mean for you, though? Well, if you're in Seattle, it means that there will be free birthday cake every day this week (Tue-Sun) at the CakeSpy Shop! First come first served.
But even if you're not in Seattle you can enter to win some totally sweet stuff! There will be giveaways all week, starting with this super sweet prize pack, perfect for macaron lovers: a miniature original watercolor CakeSpy painting (the original! I think they are! I would not be surprised if we say macaron shops show up all over. However, I hope they don't. I like feeling like macarons are special little treats that you can't get just anywhere.

Noooo not the new cupcake :D I can't see people ordering a dozen macarons to celebrate someone's birthday. I think they are just a nice accent piece to a dessert table. I agree with Bonnie - they should be special little treats you can't just get anywhere. I think of them more as a pinkies out kinda treat.

They sure are gaining popularity like wildfire~ I want to see their popularity grow just like it did for cupcakes :)
happy birthday!!! And although I love them ever since visiting paris with the hubby years ago, my kids have nut allergies so kinda mean to make them when they can't eat them....hmmm can you make them almondless? or use some other nut free substitute? Got myself thinking now....!

I wish they were they new cupcake. After visiting Paris and having many wonderful macarons it is so sad to come back to Austin and find really bad macarons.

Hmm. I LOVE cupcakes and I can make cupcakes pretty easily. But macarons (while DELICIOUS) are so tough to create! I kind of hope they DO become the new cupcake, so we can get some yummy macaron places open here in St. Louis :)

Macarons have already had their heyday! Delicious and beautiful, but without the sticking power of cupcakes, I think ;)
I think they will have a moment of substantial fame and glory but I doubt that it would ever knock the cupcake out of popularity.
I see a hybrid inthe near future for gluttons like myself, a macron on top of a cupcake or baked inside of a cupcake. This would be a momentous hybrid for me. :)
I cannot imagine anything replacing the cupcake... I would never say no to a macaroon, but I would NEVER EVER EVER say no to a cupcake... or a dozen. A macaroon is like a little tease for your sweet tooth, but it takes a cupcake to really cure that sweet tooth :) So, no, the macaroon is not the new cupcake. They are not in competition because they are so different. Apples and oranges. Macaroons and cupcakes. Just friends. Not competitors.
Although I love macaroons, you get more satisfaction with just one cupcake as opposed to just one macaroon.
Macarons are a much better pastry and treat. But not everybody can eat almonds. Cupcakes fulfill a different role for birthdays and celebrations that a mac cannot because they are so elegant. Can you imagine a 3 year old wanting a macaron over a cupcake for their birthday?

A cupcake will always be a cupcake. A macaroon will always be a macaroon.
No two shall ever be the same. Both shall always be heralded as sugary greatness.
(But in my opinion, cupcakes are always the best!)
