Are macarons "the new cupcake"?

hmm... well the def. share the cuteness quality!
Nope - they are fashionable and delicious, but nothing will replace the cupcake.
I love macaroons but they're usually more expensive and I think more difficult to make. Cupcakes have more staying power because they are so versatile, appeal to a wider audience, and the recipes are often very approachable.
Macarons and woopie pies are gonna go head to head on this one.
I think they are the "new cupcake" among others though.
They definitely have become popular, but cupcakes will alwayshave a sweet place in my heart. Happy bday Jessie!
I don't think they're the new anything. They're certainly very popular (and frankly, they deserve a category all to themselves), but I'm not convinced anything can replace the cupcake.
Not yet, but they could be! Either way, cupcakes all the way for me!!
I don't think so, it is more classic than a fad.
I don't think so. They're also a little finger-food type treat, and they're also cute and yummy, but I don't think they're ever going to be as huge here as cupcakes. I just don't see people ordering two dozen macarons for someone's birthday...or too many wedding macaron towers.
No way! As I read in an article on the subject, macarons are too difficult to make well to take off the way the cupcake did. It simple takes a lot more skill; you'll never be able to make macarons from a box mix.
Joyeux anniversaire! I hope not, the last thing we need is popularity killing one of the greatest treats on earth. My vote is with the whoopie pie.
They are trying to be! I'm waiting for mini-pies to become the fad!
Nah, but they are an awesome little experience of their own and fun to make. They might be my new favorite COOKIE, but that's a whole 'nother thing from cupcakes.
I don't think so...I have never met someone who doesn't like cupcakes but there are people who don't like macaroons.
I feel like macarons were popular a couple years ago and are making another comeback. Anyone remember? Good luck everyone! (But cupcakes are sweeter, easier, and tastier, IMO.
Nah. Cupcakes are too fun! I need to make Macaroons soon one day...
No way! Wait, what about cake batter flavored macaroons?
Nope, there is room in the world (and my tummy) for BOTH!
I believe macaroons could be the new cupcake. I've been seeing them everywhere latey. But cupcakes are still the best.
They're too small to be the next cupcake... are they better than cupcakes? Definitely in my opinion.
The cupcakes will never be taken over! The whoopie pies are just not as pretty and versatile, but yet they are really delish!! How about a whoopie pie on a cupcake? That sounds yummy!
Do I think macaroons are the new cupcake......?
No way Jose! How 'bout no, Scott! Even if your name is not Scott or Jose! Who don't like macaroons? Who don't like cupcakes? I guess it's a reasonable question. Macaroons are coming out more and I can't remember when they're weren't cupcakes. But cupcakes are cupcakes. They are fluffy and sweet and are mini cakes. Everything is better mini! Macaroons are nice. A classic. But they could never kill the huge love of cupcakes!
I don't think they are the next cupcake. They are great but small, they won't fill you up like a cupcake will. Also, they are next to impossible for me to find here in Philadelphia. I love them though, I first tried them at a really nice bakery in Toronto, instant love.
I haven't had a macaron yet, but since they're gluten-free I should make some. Regardless I don't think that they are going to replace the cupcake. They'll just become another fun dessert option.
