Guess what? It's that special time of year when CakeSpy's Head Spy Jessie celebrates her birthday. Booyea!

What does that mean for you, though? Well, if you're in Seattle, it means that there will be free birthday cake every day this week (Tue-Sun) at the CakeSpy Shop! First come first served.

But even if you're not in Seattle you can enter to win some totally sweet stuff! There will be giveaways all week, starting with this super sweet prize pack, perfect for macaron lovers: a miniature original watercolor CakeSpy painting (the original! Not a print!) of macarons and burger hanging out, and the cutest crochet macaron you've ever seen, made by the lovely and amazing Alicia Kachmar!

Want to put yourself in the running? Simply put your answer to the important baked-good question below in the comments section below. This giveaway will close on Sunday, August 29 at 12 p.m. PST, and the winner will be contacted shortly after. US and Canada entries only this time, please!

I see a world big enough for every baked good to have a place of honor. I don't want anything to take Cuppie's place. I want to see lots of good stuff elevated to its status!

No, although they are cute, cupcakes have more personality

August 24 | Unregistered CommenterWig

No, no, it couldn't be true! Cupcakes are the best and nothing will ever, ever replace them!

I'm going to have to say "No" on this one. I think mini-cookies are the new cupcake. Who doesn't love something "mini?" There are so many varieties that they're right up there with cupcakes..that's what I'm sayin...

HB J!

Absolutely NOT.... but what about a cupcake topped with a mini macaroon?

August 24 | Unregistered CommenterMeg

Hmmm.... I don't know.... I LOVE macarons, but I think they are just in a completely different class than cupcakes! They are equally delicious and are just both good for different occasions. :-)

Yes, for now--until the "new macaroon" :) Or unless too many people, like my mother, say, "There doesn't seem to be very much coconut in these."

August 24 | Unregistered CommenterGussie

Nope.

August 24 | Unregistered CommenterDiana

not yet, but soon they will be! at least i hope so!

Don't get me wrong I love me some cupcakes, but try to pry my coconut macaroon out of my hand and you have got another thing coming. Hopefully macaroons are here to stay, I love them with my coffee...sometimes I even picture myself having a sweet macaroon as a snack as lay underneath the eiffel tower in Paris. Bon Appetit!

i dont know ive never had a macaroon!

August 24 | Unregistered CommenterSara

nah, cupcakes are around for good!

August 24 | Unregistered Commenteradriana

Eh. Cupcakes are about the visual variety; macarons are about the uniform cuteness. I'm still stuck on the lexicological proximity to my Passover favorite, macaroons.

August 24 | Unregistered Commenterbethama

Happy birthday!
Macaroons are not the new cupcake, but they are definitely cute!

August 24 | Unregistered CommenterAlison

I feel that Macarons are a New treat, to be searved along side the Divine Cuppycake! :o)

August 24 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen

No I think that cupcakes are here to stay. It is a near perfect snack, not to much and not to little. But macaroons are good too.

August 24 | Unregistered Commenterstarla

I believe in dessert diversity; macarons and cupcakes and whoopie pies and all the other yummies should coexist peacefully without subjecting themselves to a popularity contest.

August 24 | Unregistered CommenterToni

I wouldn't say they are the new cupcakes -- I would definitely choose a cupcake over a macaron for breakfast. Also, a cupcake is much more versatile and gives way for innovation where as the parisian macaron is somewhat limited. The cupcake industry has spread so widely because of its variations and personal touches. The macaron is a lovely dessert but is simply not a cupcake. And would we ever want to replace Cuppie?

I've never said no to any goody from a bakery, but you can't shove a whole macaroon in your mouth and sigh contentedly while your mouth is brimming with the perfect amount of gooey frosting and soft, cushy cake.

August 24 | Unregistered CommenterCameron

Macarons may be the next baking and pastry trend, but there is no way macaron shops will be popping up all over. More bakeries and cafes will simply carry macarons along other other offerings.

August 24 | Unregistered CommenterGina

macarons are fantastique but i don't think they'll replace cupcakes...they're so tiny and gone in one big bite or 2 tiny bites. cupcakes are fabu for parties. macarons can be bought at bakeries with other pastries, but prob there won't be macarons bakery like there are cupcakes bakeries...in other words, macarons have their place and cupcakes have their place.

August 24 | Unregistered Commenterdee

I think that both macaroons and cupcakes both have their place. I dont think they are going to replace cupcakes but i think they will give a run for their money.

I love them both! lol

August 24 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

Neverrrr! Cupcakes are classic & perfect.

August 24 | Unregistered CommenterCher

Cupcakes and macarons are both equally wonderful but I feel like macarons have definitely moved into the spotlight!

August 25 | Unregistered CommenterKim

nah, i dont think so. i think cupcakes are a comfort level for many bakers at home for holidays and events, we have tons of options on flavors, colors, and decorating them. cupcakes have become the norm and I love it!
