Cake Poll: How Do You Eat A Cupcake?
Tuesday, May 12, 2009
Musing over methods of snack-eating is practically an American pastime. There have been ad campaigns centered on how people eat Reese's Peanut Butter Cups; there have been studies on the characteristics associated with various methods of Oreo-eating.
But now, it's time to attack the sweetest treat of all: the cupcake. Tell us how you eat yours in the comment section, and you'll be entered to win a completely awesome prize pack, which will include:
- an original framed piece of CakeSpy artwork: Cupcakes and Zombies!
- a set of Bella Cupcake Couture cupcake liners
- a box of CakeSpy notecards
- a brand-new (hot off the press!) mini notebook featuring Cupcakes at CBGB!
- a pack of cupcake lip balm
-------------------------------
How do you eat yours?
Do you eat it with a knife and fork, pinkies out?
Do you tear it in half and discard the bottom so as to increase the frosting-to-cake ratio?
Do you invert it, sandwich-style, to keep your fingers free of frosting?
Do you eat yours with a spoon, served in a dish of milk?
...Or do you just dig in?
Can't wait to read your responses! A winner will be chosen at random shortly after the cake poll closes at noon (12 p.m. PST) on Friday, May 15.

First I pull away part of the wrapper then open my pie hole as wide as I can and bite the side of the cupcake, usually getting a third of the cupcake in my mouth. Then I pull off the rest of the wrapper turn the cake sideways and take two more bites. How many bites does it take to eat a cupcake? Thhhhrrreeee!
Love your artwork!
People use forks? Huh...
I peel off half of the wrapper, then start taking little bites. Not too exciting, but it works for me!
If there is a lot of frosting like you normally see from a bakery, then I eat it sandwich style. If it has a regular amount of frosting, like when it is spread, I just bite it.

I almost always pull the poor cuppycake apart. I eat the bottom half first, then indulge in the top (FROSTING! WOOT!) half. BUT... if it's one of those teasey little mini cupcakes, I just pop the entire thing in and then regret the fact that my cupcake is gone so quickly. [@
I just bite right into it! Why wait?
I take the wrapper off and then I try to get a bit with cake and frosting!
I like to eat cupcakes any way! But my preferred method is to break off the bottom and put it on top to make a cupcake sandwich!
I am a super-messy eater, so my solution for eating cupcakes is to use a fork- just a fork- to avoid getting the frosting all over my fingers. I like to keep a fairly constant frosting-cake ratio as well, so I make sure that each bite has a good amount of both :)
i leave half the wrapper on, and hold it between my thumb and ring finger, with pointer and middle finger against the side of the cupcake to brace it against inevitable attack. i keep my pinkie extended because i am, after all, a lady.
If the icing isn't too tall, I just dig in.

I unwrap it, then try to get both frosting and ake in each bite. Sometimes I cut it in half to make this easier and not get frosting up my nose.

Sometimes I use a fork, sometimes I tear it in half and work around, sometimes I don't even eat the icing and just the cake part. I'm very picky about my cuppies.
I pull down the paper off the sides, and use utensils if I have them.
If I have no utensils, I peel down half the wrapper, then start nibbling away.
Well, first I stick my index into the frosting to have a taste, so I can judge the frosting to cake ratio properly.
Then I proceed to peeling off the cake liner, because eating paper isn't really my thing
I then open my mouth as big as I can, and take a bite that comprises a logical amount of cake and frosting.
Last but not least, I run to the fridge to get a glass of milk, and then settle down to finish my cupcake like a civilised person that I try to be...
I like to make sure to eat a little bit of frosting and cake in each bite, so I'm very careful about that. I eat it in hand unless its really messy by peeling off half the paper and eating. Mmm. I think I'll eat one now!
I know it's weird, but i still eat icing the way i have since i was like four. I lick all the icing off (and cover myself with it in the process, sad to say) and then eat the cake. I don't like the way they taste together. I've always been the kind of girl who freaks if her green beans touched her mashed potatoes, though.
i peel back part of the liner on the bottom and start at that end, attempting to use the liner to catch any crumbs.. i work my way around the edge, and try not to get dots of frosting on my nose. YUM! great prize pack!
I use a fork, which ensures an ideal frosting to cake ratio in each bite. Then I sometimes scrape the last bits of goodness from the wrapper with my teeth.
Mini cupcakes, of course, are a single-bite product so no utensils are needed.
I usually eat the first couple of bites straight through - with some cake and some frosting. Then, I pull the rest of the paper off and eat the bottom of the cupcake if the frosting is especially delicious, and then save and eat the frosting for last.
First, I strip it. No cuppie should be wrapped when eaten.
Then, I just delve in from the side. Every bite is cake and frosting filled!
I love the cup part of the cupcake....so, I break off the top and give the icing to one of my kiddos and eat the bottom! YUM-O!
I peel off the paper, tearoff the bottom half and set aside the frosting part. I cram the bottom half in, chew and swallow, then sloooooowwwwllllyyyy savor the top with the frosting. I <3 FROSTING
I prefer a fork, because I have a phobia about licking my fingers. :)
I guess I'm boring. I just peel back the cupcake liner and dig in! Although I may stick my pinky finger out just a tad. :)
Thanks for the chance!
It all depends on how much frosting there is, and since I usually have lot's- it requires a fork. I do that or either pop of the top and eat that part last.
