Cake Poll: How Do You Eat A Cupcake?

Win them!
Musing over methods of snack-eating is practically an American pastime. There have been ad campaigns centered on how people eat Reese's Peanut Butter Cups; there have been studies on the characteristics associated with various methods of Oreo-eating.

But now, it's time to attack the sweetest treat of all: the cupcake. Tell us how you eat yours in the comment section, and you'll be entered to win a completely awesome prize pack, which will include:

-------------------------------

How do you eat yours?
How do you eat yours?
Do you eat it with a knife and fork, pinkies out?
Do you tear it in half and discard the bottom so as to increase the frosting-to-cake ratio?
Do you invert it, sandwich-style, to keep your fingers free of frosting?
Do you eat yours with a spoon, served in a dish of milk?
...Or do you just dig in?
Can't wait to read your responses! A winner will be chosen at random shortly after the cake poll closes at noon (12 p.m. PST) on Friday, May 15.

It definitely depends on the size. If it's a bite sized baby, I restrain myself from going for the natural hole-in-one and instead take two bites.
On normal sized cupcakes, it depends on how much frosting is up top. If a mediocre amount, I'll probably just bite into it. However, if I were to get one with a ton of fabulously delicious butter cream from say, Trophy for example, I tear off pieces, starting on the bottom, dip them into the frosting up top and eat it that way. When I all I have left is the muffin top, I then slowly devour it, savoring the last few moments of cakey goodness.

I remove the wrapper, and, depending on my mood or if I'm walking or sitting, I'll take a bite or use a fork. I always make sure that I get both cake and frosting in each and every bite - I am not usually a fan of the "just cake" bites and need a little frosting with every bite!

I tear pieces off the bottom first, to test the cake and make it short enough to bite.

i'm a take the paper off, get a bit of cake and frosting/topping with each bite kinda gal.

that said, i've got 2 daughters: one who will only eat the cake part and one who will only eat the topping/frosting. go figure!

My goal is to have each bite provide me an equal portion of cake to frosting. Since I have a smaller mouth, this usually results in me with a dollop of frosting on the tip of my nose :)

I lick off the frosting. Yes, it's the best part, but sometimes it's the only part I eat! Then I unwrap and nibble. That way I stay tidy and I can save myself calories if the cupcake doesn't live up to the promise of the frosting. :)

I eat mine by unpeeling the wrappyer, licking off the extra frosting from around the rim, and then eating from the bottom. What I'm left with (if I do it right) is kind of a cupcake top cookie, with lots of frosting. Delicious.... almost as delicious as your blog! :D

I take the cupcake tin off, eat the top or eat the frosting (depends on how much frosting there is), and then I eat the rest of the cupcake. Always gone in too few bites. :P

I always lick off all the frosting and then eat the cake. There is just something about pure frosting hitting the blood stream...

I eat mine like a sandwich - I tear the bottom half off & put it on top of the icing...I need equal parts frosting/cake ;) Plus, it's less messy that way...

I eat my cupcakes with reckless abandon! I just dig in...no fork, no spoons!

I just dig in - Not pretty and not graceful just full on chow down!!

I like to lick almost all of the frosting off first, leaving just a bit and then I like to devour the cupcake. Nom nom!! My son prefers the face-smash method.

No knife and fork. No pinkies out.
No discarding any pieces, frosted or not.
No inverting, frosted fingers are fab!
No dish of milk (I prefer a glass).
Digging in...sort of...

Tops torn neatly from bottoms
Frosting on fingers, bottom first, then nibbling the top to make it last longer.

I use a finger to scoop up and lick off the frosting first. At some point after eating frosting but before the frosting is all gone, I'll break off the edges of the cupcake top and eat it - this is by far the best part of the cupcake. Then I eat the top bit of the cupcake, then the bottom cakey bit.

A cupcake is a treat and something to savor - eating it all in a few bites is a travesty.

Tear off and eat the bottom FIRST, then eat the top...lots of frosting with the cake left as a transportation device! ;)

I gently peel the sides down to create a cake laced doily, it acts as a staging area for dissection. Then I'll either cut or pull apart the cupcake top from it's thick stem and mainline the cupcake base, more of a taste really, to appreciate the un-frosted cake and decide how I'd like to proceed. If the cake passes muster it gets immediately consumed, sometimes with bits of frosting added. Then I start on the top portion from one side to the other, relishing the relationship of the frosting and cake. If a fork is available, and the cake is above average, I will scrape the doily clean and fold it in half's until it's a very pointy triangle.

I eat the bottom cake first, then save the frosting for last. Cupcakes and cakes are just a frosting delivery system to me :)

May 13 | Unregistered CommenterDenise

unwrap it completely, tear off and eat the bottom first, then savor the top with the frosting! yum.

May 13 | Unregistered CommenterValerie

I take off the cupcake liner first and take a big bite to get a full cross-section of icing and cake. If there's a filling inside, so much the better!

May 13 | Unregistered CommenterAlana

I usually smush it all in my mouth if I can. No forks, just fingers shoving the cake in there. If I don't like the frosting, I use the wrapper to take off most of it (this is usually the case if it's from the supermarket/mass-produced/too-sugary, irritant to my throat). I pretty much just go after the 'cake' itself. If it's too big to fit all in my mouth, then I take big bites of it.

May 13 | Unregistered CommenterHR

I saw your tweet about your technique and I eat mine the exact same way!

First I pull the bottom off and eat the cake part bite by bite. Then I carefully pull off any cake remaining on the frosting section, careful to leave a thin layer for frosting support. Then I slowly nibble at the frosting, savoring each bite

I break off the bottom, invert it, and put it on top. Mmm.

I like to put as much of it in my mouth as humanly possible. I don't like to ruin the structure of the cupcake, so I attempt to open my mouth as wide as possible. It's a shame I can't unhinge my jaw!
