Cake Poll: Let Me Eat Cake!
Thursday, April 9, 2009
Do you really love cake?
Do you love cake so much that whenever you're in the same room, you find yourself unable to resist its siren call?
Then certainly Leslie F. Miller's new book, Let Me Eat Cake, is for you. Now, let's get it straight--though the book has a few recipes, that's not what it's about--it's more about the culture of cake, its lure and the lore behind it, baked up full of personal anecdotes and cake stories galore. And--as we were surprised and delighted to discover--there's even a mention of CakeSpy.com!
And you, dear friend, could be the winner of a signed copy of the book. Oh, you want this!
To put your name in the running, simply answer this question in the comments. You can be as literal or as figurative as you like, just be sure to leave your thoughts on this important subject:
What is the best thing about cake?
The poll will be closed on Monday at 12 p.m. PST, and the winner will be announced shortly thereafter. If you're interested in purchasing the book, click here. Oh, and in case you were interested, the cupcake shown is a Chai Cardamom cupcake from Seattle's Trophy Cupcakes!

the best thing about cake is that anyone can make one. YOu can be a super baker and do it all from scratch, or just grab a boxed mix at the store. Cake is universal, it usually means a celebrating is going on, but the best part is there doesnt need to be a good reason to have cake. You want it... get it and enjoy it!
Eating cake...peeling off the cupcake wrapper is the beginning of a cake rhapsody; sinking the tines of a fork into the moist, fragrant crumb, scooping, mouth open and salivating… that glorious sensation that swathes the mouth as sugar and fat mingle, singing to your senses. That is best thing about cake.
For me a cake is a way to gift my love, send a lot of feelings, through the flavours, consistences, smellings...
It´s the only who share most of my lonliness moments, those choosen by myself just to enjoy of that simple and magic pleasure.
To me, the best part about cake is the anticipation built up between the time you pour the batter and the time you take it out of the over. That half hour or so feels like the longest, yet most enjoyable time because you know that any moment the time will go off and your cake will be done, ready for you to eat.
:]
So I used to be a devoted pie lover and cake shunner.
Then I had good cake, and I realized that cake is the perfect dessert because, unlike pie (although it is still my first love), you can decorate it, frost it, shape it, and do a million other things to it that you can't do to pie.
The best thing about cake, eh? I would have to say it's pure sweetness... the light texture.. um... it's hard to put this love into words! :-)
When the cake comes out everything is good in the world. There are smiles, best wishes, candles blown and sometimes even clapping. Every occasion deserves a cake.
mmmm....cake! i love getting that perfect forkful of fluffy cake and creamy frosting. the combination of textures is my favorite part of cake!
The best thing about cake is the way it makes you feel when you're sitting down, holding the fork, looking at it, about to take a bite, and knowing that its all warm and pretty just so that it will be delicious and make you happy. That someone made that and you get to share it. Cake is Good! uh-huh!
The squishy goodness of an angel food cake with a hint of peppermint... simple and delightful!
Licking the bowl is the best part!

the best thing about cake....for me, it represents celebration, fun & happiness (oh yeah, the frosting IS the best part!)
cake means celebration! and celebration means. . . i can have a second piece!
When I was young I helped my mom deisgn my birthday cakes and even helped bake them. Now I have a blast envisioning my own and making them for whatever occasion I can have an excuse to make one! Cake makes people happy. It may be better than chocoalte. Unless it's chocolate cake... ooooo :)
It always so sweet and hits the spot. ;)
Mmm...licking the frosting off my fingers!
The best thing about cake is the corner piece that comes out of a 9"x12" pan...it has that sort of crust edge that I love so much!!!

the best about cake is to know that it was an art, it was delicious and it makes us feeling happy before and after eating it :D
The best thing about cake is the euphoric dreamstate when you put that moist,soft cake in your mouth enveloped with volumptous, tintillating frosting that keeps you wanting more and more.
The best thing about cake....hmmm the satisfaction it gives you after two straight weeks of studying and mid term exams! heheh Also all the fun I get out of it when I make it with my roommates. So many precious moments just by making cake :D
It makes me feel like a kid at a birthday party again.
cake is the promise of smiles, laughter and joy.
The best thing about cake is that it brings a smile to people's faces no matter what, whether it is a beautiful perfect cake, or a failed collapsed cake.
:)
What is the best thing about cake?
The fact that a slice of a delicious cake can lift my spirits like nothing else, that the sweet taste of it will remind me that life can be a wonderful thing, and also the sweet scent of a cake baking in the oven can fill my home with love (might be cliche, but true) and bring family members together - cause who doesn't like cake?!
cake = celebration
cake = reward
cake = bribe
cake = secret indulgence
cake = tradition
cake = happiness
can you imagine a world without cake?
here's your birthday pie
here's your wedding pie
here's your graduation pie
just not the same
THE BEST THING ABOUT A CAKE is...
When you are a kid and it is your birthday and there is a cake that has your name on it! That feeling of specialness that this gives a kid is the best thing about cakes!
I love the first moment you see a beautifully decorated cake in a bakery case.
It is also a real treat to make a cake. I enjoy licking the spatula and then getting to decorate and share with friends.
Congrats on the comment in the book. Very cool!
