Maple bacon? Chai cardamom? Bananas foster? There are all sorts of unusual cupcake flavor combinations out there--have you sampled any of them? Or if you haven't sampled any unusual flavors, are there any you've wanted to try?

Mmmm...most Austin cupcake places don't make anything terribly exciting, so the most exciting ones I've tasted are ones I made: Caramel cardamom cake with milk chocolate pistachio filling and caramel buttercream or Strawberry cake with white chocolate basil cream filling and white chocolate buttercream.
avocado cupcakes!! i want to try them and desperately want to bake them!!! its so weird and it would be a pretty green color and oddly enough somewhat good for you
Guinness and dark chocolate with blackberry frosting.. it was a strange combo but actually was not too bad.
Love the blog,
Michael
I've had a root beer cupcake. Not bad, kind of like gingerbread.
I would love to try an amaretto chocolate strawberry cupcake. I have not had the opportunity to try some unique or exotic flavors, but would love to bake up this combination.
Bacon cupcakes. It sounded strange to me, but everyone knows bacon tastes great on ANYTHING!
Dr. Pepper, and both the cupcake and frosting tasted like it, 2nd runner up would be a maple cupcake with maple frosting and bacon, the cupcake wasn't so unusual... just the bacon, but very very good!!

French toast cupcakes from Sugar Mamas in Austin. Delicious!!
I would definitely try the cupcake with bacon and chocolate. Everyone says it is good; I'd like to see for myself!
The weirdest one I tried was chocolate-curry. And it was surprisingly good! :)
BBQ Peach at More in Chicago.
Black bottom cupcakes with cream cheese and cherry pie filling, yum!
sweet potato cuppie. delish!
Most unusual? Sadly, I'm not adventurous in my cake-eating. I love chocolate - all chocolate if possible. Did I mention I love chocolate? :)
my favorite unusual cupcake was a peanut butter and bacon cupcake -- dark chocolate peanut butter cupcake with peanut butter buttercream frosting that was sprinkled with extra-crispy crumbled bacon. delicious!
I'd love to try a candied ripe olive cupcake. Otherwise, the most exotic I've had is lime.
Bacon & peanut butter.
Lavender with pumpkin. Supposedly the flavors/scents that stimulate men's senses? I'm a girl so I don't know if it works, but it tasted like perfume. Ugh.
I've never tried it, but I'm curious to taste a bacon cupcake!
I'd love to try french toast cupcakes.
Wish I had more crazy cupcakes under my belt...I would totally try anything with bacon or chocolate, haha!
The most unusual & delicious cupcake I have had is a bittersweet chocolate cupcake injected with passion fruit ganache, topped with more passion fruit ganache & chocolate shavings. The sweet/sour passionfruit balanced the bittersweet chocolate perfectly.
Tomato studded cornmeal cupcake with a pesto cream cheese icing. It was a proud and delicious moment.
