That's a tough one, but I have to say decorating. Its more fun but the most important thing is the quality of the cake.
Decorating is the creative part, baking is the scientific part! I wouldn't say I'm awesome at either, but I try. I'm going with DECORATING! :)
Usually, I have to say the baking: making a mess spilling flour everywhere, licking the spoons when you're done.

My favorite part is the baking! I love the work of mixing all my ingredients together while throwing in things according to my personal taste. In the end you have your own little piece of edible art!

I think the decorating part is more fun...because it actually shows part of yourself in the creation! so definitely decorating is my favorite part of the entire process...

Baking for the smells alone!

I absolutely love both parts!! Baking is such and adventure but when decorating your creative side really shows.
I definitely enjoy the decorating unless I really want a piece of chocolate layer cake with chocolate buttercream frosting right now. Then its all about the cake!

I love the baking part! I like to create and try new things so that is the part I get most excited about, but I love to have them look just as good as they taste, so you have to make them all pretty!!!!
that is the HARDEST QUESTION EVER! because there is pure magic and alchemy in the baking aspect, but there is insanity and finite design in the decorating...

Decorating! As a very methodical person, the repetition of decorating a bunch of sugar cookies can be very soothing :)
I really got to thinking about this question, and I think that I would say that decorating is my favorite part of making a cake. I used to love mixing all of the ingredients as a kid and I still enjoy watching the cake rise, but as I hone my decorating skills and creativity, I have come to love the entire decorating process. I love designing the cake in my head, exploring other people's ideas and techniques, and overcoming the unexpected challenges during the entire process. In the end, when I finally get to eat my masterpiece, I also enjoy a further appreciation of all the hard work I put into my cakes.
P.S.- I just started reading your blog a few months ago and I love it! This blog has some great work in it!
Definitely baking. Decorating would be a lot more fun if it didn't need patience and a strong back.

I think the best part is the decorating. I'm not very good at it yet but I LOVE looking at all of the fun/creative ways others have decorated their cupcakes. Such inspiration!
