Where to Go: A Sweet Giveaway For a $50 Amex Gift Card

Photo: Bakery NouveauSo. Recently Where.com offered to donate a $50 Amex Gift Card to one lucky reader on my site for giving their site a plug. (See how I just gave them a plug right there?).

Thanks for the giveaway, WHERE!And this offer got me to thinking about how many delicious baked goods could be purchased with $50, so I agreed--because surely there's got to be someone out there who would be thrilled to have money with which to go buy baked goods, right? Plus, I already have a giveaway going on for the kids--this one is for the grownups!

But here's the thing. To enter to win, you've got to do two things.

First, you've got to promise me that you will use the $50 gift card to buy baked goods or some sort of baking related equipment. You've got to PROMISE ME, and not be lying.

Second, you've got to leave a comment below telling me where you'd spend this gift card, and on what. I'll tell you right now, if I were the winner, I would, right this instant, get my butt over to Bakery Nouveau and buy an entire King Cake, and with any leftover money I'd buy a bunch of smaller pastries and be sure to leave the counter staff a nice tip. Wouldn't that be a sweet way to spend $50?

How about you--what sweet treat would you buy with $50, care of Where?

This giveaway will close one week from today, on March 4 at 3pm PST.

I would definitely use the gift card on food related items. I think I would use the gift card on Amazon and buy some pearl sugar which I can't seem to find anywhere and a brand new baking book that I have been wanting for a while now,and who knows what else. I might just use it to help purchase an ice cream maker.

I pinky swear I would spend the money on baking supplies from Gygis in Salt Lake! I have been making cake pop displays as a little side business and I need tons of stuff!

I would absolutely spend it on a class at Gourmandise Desserts http://www.gourmandisedesserts.com/. I absolutely promise!

i would first, go purchase a bunch of cute cup cake cards (designed by cakespy….), then purchase a new deep dish pie pan. then, figure out how to make a gateau basque. THEN, deliver to the cakespy retail store, with a cute card, as a thank you!!!

I promise to use the $50 on baking supplies that my daughter and I will need for the cupcakes we are donating to the Seattle Cupcake camp.

1) I promise
2) I really really need a new silicone baking mat. Mine was used as a cutting board (I was very unhappy)...its not so nice any more.

I would spend the free cash on supplies to experiment on making cake pops. I want to get good enough so that people would actually PAY ME to bake for them! This weekend I am attempting Mr. Potato Head cake pops for a friend's 3 year old's b-day party.

I promise, ok now on to the good part. There is two very good Dutch bakerys in the town next to ours. I would go there with my daughter and get some of their wonderful Dutch Letters and then I would get something for all the girls I work with. (theres only 6 of us)
My boss loves the raised doughnuts. For the rest of them i would take orders.

I'm a gluten free college student, so I'd stock up on baking essentials so I can have a midnight baking party again! Maybe some fun cookie cutters too. Mmmmm.

I would head on over to the nearby KitchenAid outlet and buy myself a new mixer. It's a long overdue purchase that I've been mulling over for weeks! After that, I'd make a ton of sweet treats!

There is a gluten-free bakery in town; I would totally buy a bunch of cupcakes and pastries to share with my friends I get together with almost every Friday night; if there were any leftover money, I'd love to some professional cake pans.

I would buy a cupcake in each flavor that Baked and Wired in DC has to offer--maybe even two of my fav--strawberry cupcakes!

I would love to get the Star Wars cookie cutters for me, and Sprinkles cupcake mixes from Williams Sonoma to mail to a friend! I would also get ingredients to make the New York Times chocolate chip cookies and share them with my students. I'm a speech therapist, and it would be fun to think of words to describe cookies and then eat them!

I went to Paris a couple of years ago and was astounded at how good all the bakeries were. I fell in love with macarons so I would love to order macarons from Paulines online here in the US. I have read that these macarons are wonderful.

There is a Bakery around my house called Baker's Treat. I think I might buy one of everything . . . Cheese Danish in particular.

Or, because I can get more for my money, maybe I'll just buy all the stuff necessary to make A LOT of them. :)

I promise! I would go either to Amazon and buy Bobby Flay's Throwdown book and Sky-high: Irresistible Triple Layer Cakes or go on a bender at Williams Sonoma/Crate and Barrel.
February 25 | Unregistered CommenterHilary
Easily two dozen cupcakes at IcedGems in Reisterstown, Maryland! The Victoria cupcake is my current favorite :)

I would use it on the Baked brownie mix at Williams-Sonoma and the Tartine cookbook.

I would drive down to San Diego ASAP and go to the churro place with different flavored churros and try one of each!@!!

I would want to buy a new mixer--I think mine is slowly breaking down, and it makes horrid noises. But I might also want to spend all of the money on cake at Simply Desserts. Eating their cake makes me very, very happy.

First I would replace my cupcake holder, which a cleaning company melted. I like to bake cupcakes for my husband & his coworkers, but I haven't had the money to replace it. Then I would head down to Molly's Cupcakes (in Chicago) and buy at least a dozen to share with the people I love

I would go to the upcoming Cajun-themed open house at the local culinary school & buy some of their goodies.. being from New Orleans I miss Cajun food AND King Cakes this time of year!!!

The other night I was looking at http://www.icingonthecakebakery.com/products.htm and drooling at the description of their pastries, especially their cupcakes! Let me tell you, if I won the $50, I would spend it all in that bakery (and I'll probably have to spend a bit more than that because I have a wild sweet tooth). ;P Or maybe I'll split the $50 and spend half at that bakery and spend the other half on these AMAZING vanilla bean creme puffs from Satura Cakes. Yeah... you can pretty much bet that I will only use the $50 to buy food. That's all I ever spend my money on . . .food! :]
