While adorable and delicious, I don't think macarons are the new cupcake. They are too fancy and fussy for everyday people to whip up as they please.

Yes, it's all over the internet...lots of sites stating their the new cupcake!

Macaroon's cultural trends wise might be the next "it" thing, just like cupcakes were the next "it" thing for awhile. They are in a tough race with whoopie cakes though. The question of is it the whoopie pie or is it the macaroon is what I'm looking forward to seeing soon. I love both so either will be good for me.

Overall though....a macaroon as much as they're pretty, creative or wonderful they are, a cupcake is the only treat that touches every persons heart. They bring back memories of childhood, moments of great happiness or sadness, and everything in between. Cupcakes are attainable, makeable and has a personal connection to everyone.

Thus my answer to your question in a persona sense: macaroons are not the next new thing. Cupcakes will forever be my thing :D

yes, but i don't agree

August 26 | Unregistered CommenterCassandra

No, cupcakes still rule!

August 27 | Unregistered CommenterTina

No, there's something about a cupcake with swirled icing and sprinkles on top that just can't be replaced.

I don't think the macaron can every really overtake the cupcake in popularity. For one thing, they're just too darn hard to make.

I think it's very possible that macaroons will take over as the new craze, which is nice becaue I too love macaroons, but I think for those of us who have a special place in our hearts for a good cupcake...we know they're irreplaceable! But there's always room in my world for both :)

Macarons? The new cupcake? I may have been living in a cave for the past 2 years (a cave called grad school), but I say cupcakes are still on top!

August 27 | Unregistered CommenterBrit

I don't think they will replace cupcakes. Although very popular (I love macarons), the textures are so different that if I were to have a craving for cake, I would still choose a cupcake. If I'm feeling sweet, but don't want something so heavy, the macaron of course. At least for me, cupcakes are a nostalgic treat that can't be replaced. :)

I sure as heck hope not! Long live the cupcake!!!

August 27 | Unregistered CommenterSpoon

No, I don't think so. Macarons are the new macaron.

August 27 | Unregistered CommenterHannah

There's no such thing as the new cupcake, they're too much of as timeless classic, like a fluffy version of the little black dress :)

August 27 | Unregistered CommenterThe Ferret

Unfortunately, I think doughnuts are the cupcakes. But macrons are on a whole level, all their own!

August 27 | Unregistered CommenterKarleen

No way! Nothing can replace cupcakes. But, then again, I live in Arkansas where the latest fads reach us years behind their peak. Ask me this question again in a few years and my answer might be different. :)

August 27 | Unregistered CommenterAndrea A

yes yes yes! so many options, they're delicious and so adorable, just like a cupcake(:

August 27 | Unregistered CommenterSarah

FALSE!
macarons can't be the new cupcake because they are not related, you can't possibly compare!
cookies and cake are not the same, they are like distant cousins...of aunt marys grandpas sisters mother in laws fathers sister nephew twice removed.
cupcakes are those who want adventure with diffrent flavors, colors, decor, and style!
macarons are for those who want to sit with a cup of tea and get lost in a classy macron

both are very delicious and should team up together to make MACARUPCAKES! :D

stay ageless cupcake,
and happy birthday jessie :]

Others may have said it (and if so, I agree): I don't think macaroons will ever have the universal appeal of cupcakes, as delicious and beautiful and delicate as they may be. That said, I'm glad they're gaining in popularity -- now there are three macaroon vendors at our local farmer's market -- all the more to sample. :)

I would like to think macaroons could be the next cupcake. Macaroons are small, cute and completely delicious and can come in a wide variety of flavors. However they are more expensive to produce, making them more expensive to buy. Cupcakes will reign number one as the frugal and delicious go to sweet treat.

I am just excited that I could get fairly decent macarons from Trader Joe's! As for cupcakes, the ones featured around my neighborhood aren't very tasty - even at a place called "Cupcake Station!"

i"ll take a macaron any day...:-)

August 28 | Unregistered CommenterLaurie C.

Happy bday.
No, the cupcake can never be replaced.

August 28 | Unregistered CommenterPanda

Heck no. Nothing can take the place of a delicious cupcake. Macaroons aren't love by all -- but who doesn't love a cupcake?

August 29 | Unregistered CommenterCaren

No, they aren't the new cupcake, but it *is* nice to have a sweet treat that you can carry around in your pocket!

August 29 | Unregistered CommenterJen in PDX

nothing could ever surpass the cupcake in cuteness or pure delectableness.
