Cake Poll: How Do You Eat A Cupcake?

Win them!
Musing over methods of snack-eating is practically an American pastime. There have been ad campaigns centered on how people eat Reese's Peanut Butter Cups; there have been studies on the characteristics associated with various methods of Oreo-eating.

But now, it's time to attack the sweetest treat of all: the cupcake. Tell us how you eat yours in the comment section, and you'll be entered to win a completely awesome prize pack, which will include:

-------------------------------

How do you eat yours?
How do you eat yours?
Do you eat it with a knife and fork, pinkies out?
Do you tear it in half and discard the bottom so as to increase the frosting-to-cake ratio?
Do you invert it, sandwich-style, to keep your fingers free of frosting?
Do you eat yours with a spoon, served in a dish of milk?
...Or do you just dig in?
Can't wait to read your responses! A winner will be chosen at random shortly after the cake poll closes at noon (12 p.m. PST) on Friday, May 15.

Do you eat it with a knife and fork, pinkies out? Heck no!! One handful.

Do you tear it in half and discard the bottom so as to increase the frosting-to-cake ratio? Heck no, eat the entire thing!

Do you invert it, sandwich-style, to keep your fingers free of frosting? Nope.

Do you eat yours with a spoon, served in a dish of milk?
...Or do you just dig in? Just dig in baby! Cupcakes are bite-sized for a reason :) One bite !

I actually don't like frosting (criminal, I know!) so I tend to either scrape off most of the frosting except for a thin layer and then unwrap and eat the cupcake from one end to another OR I simply take off the wrapper entirely, eat it from the bottom upwards and when I am getting too high of a frosting:cake ratio, I'm done with it.

How I eat a cupcake depends entirely where I am. No matter what, I take a lick of frosting first. If I have packed it in my lunch, it has been sandwiched, with the bottom cut off and placed over the frosting, so that the frosting doesn't all get stuck in the bag. If I'm at work, with people around, plate and fork are necessary. However, if I'm at home, you can kiss that cupcake goodbye in several big bites that each include cake and frosting, top to bottom!

I take off the wrapper, eat the bottom first, and save the frosted top for last. MMMMM

It's all a question of size- If it's a big cupcake, I will admit to pulling out a fork, but if it's a small/mini, I'll just take of the wrapper and bite from the bottom, leaving the frosting and "muffin top" for last.

Gotta have cake+frosting in each bite (more cake than frosting, please!). I usually just dig in, mouth wide, though I love the idea of making a cupcake sandwich with the bottom, though!

May 13 | Unregistered CommenterJacqueline

I just dig in!! It is all gone in a matter of seconds anyway :P

i gotta have a bite of icing and cake in every bite. it takes a bit of finesse, but i've been doing it for years so i'm a pro now!!

I first peel off the liner. Then I take a bite of the frosting and cake. Depending on if the cake is dry or if the frosting is too sweet determines how I eat the rest. Cake to dry and/or if the frosting is too sweet, I will keep eating them together. If the frosting is just right I will lick it off like an ice cream cone and then eat the cake. YUMMM! Never seen or thought to eat it like a sandwich...may have to go get a cup just to try it out!

For me, it's all about the cake-to-frosting ratio. My first bite is usually pretty big, and then I take smaller bites, making sure that each will have plenty of frosting!

If there is some kind of decoration on it, I eat that off first. Then peel off the wrapper entirely. I try to get some frosting and some cake in each bite. I like to save a piece with proportionately more frosting for the last bite.

I took a series of photos the other day of my 1 year-old eating a cupcake. It was funny but they are private on my flickr page. She tends to scoop the icing off with 4 fingers and eat that directly. Then when all the icing is gone, takes a few nibbles at the cake before crumbling the whole thing entirely and throwing it on the floor! I take it as a sign the recipe is a success when she actually eats the entire cupcake.

I always take the liner off first to get that out of the way. I usually try to get an even amount of cake and frosting in each bite. Sometimes I will eat most of the cake first and then the frosting.
I have to say it is fun watching my 3 year old eat a cupcake...he eats it top down...frosting first and then the cake.

Always twist the bottom off and plop it on top for a little icing sandwich. Heavenly!

I unwrap the entire thing and just dig in. I like to get frosting and cake in every bite, so cupcakes with huge piles of frosting are difficult. That's why I've started http://beantownbaker.blogspot.com/2009/02/red-velvet-cupcakes-my-new-favorite-way.html" REL="nofollow">frosting cupcakes with a little bit of the cake cut out so you can have a lot of frosting without making a huge mess.

I usually take off the paper liner and take a big bite!

May 13 | Unregistered CommenterMelanie

I tear off the bottom, eat it, then finish the top off with a higher frosting to cupcake ratio! I LOVE cupcakes!

May 13 | Unregistered CommenterMissy

Well...that darn Missy used my exact answer. I would like to note, however, I usually remove the liner. Not always, but usually. ;-)

I tear off the bottom and save that gorgeous, sweet frosting for last! Yum... marly dot coldiron at gmail dot com

I remove the paper (at least half of it; all of it if the cupcake's not too crumby) & open my mouth as WIDE as it'll go so I can get frosting & cake in each bite. I'm sure I look ridiculous doing it.

dig right in, a big bite of cake and frosting. with a glass of milk nearby. yummy

I use my fingers and just dig in! Making sure to get the right ratio of icing to cake, of course.

As an exercise in delayed gratification, I tear off the top, eat the bottom cake part first, then the mostly-frosting top part.

May 13 | Unregistered Commenterkairu

I peel off the wrapper to one side and take a bite.

May 13 | Unregistered Commenterveron

Being that I am a Gemini I tend to do it a little differently each time. Most of the time I will do the sandwhich thing, to make sure every lucious bite has some frosting!
