Cake Poll: Fall Treats!
Saturday, October 11, 2008
Sure, the days are getting shorter and cooler, but they're also getting sweeter. Halloween is just around the corner, a sweet kickoff to what promises to be a fall and winter full of pies, puddings and wonderful holiday treats.
And in celebration of all of this sweetness, this month's Cake Poll focuses on fall treats! The lucky winner will receive an original Cakespy watercolor depicting L'il Cuppie being chased by ghosts (pictured top)--looks like they didn't want to share their candy!
How do you enter? Just answer the below questions to be entered in the running! Responses may be entered in the comments section or emailed to jessieoleson@gmail.com.
- Which do you prefer: candy corn or mellowcreme pumpkins?
- Fun-size candy bars: do they make you happy or leave you hungry?
- Trick-or-treaters without costumes: give 'em candy anyway, or turn 'em away?
- Halloween candy-eating method: eat it as fast as you can, or ration it out to last?
- Favorite cold-weather beverage: hot apple cider or hot chocolate?
- Fall pie faceoff: apple or pumpkin?
The fine print: The poll will be closed at 12 p.m PST on Friday, October 17. As usual, the winner will be chosen at random. Entries from the US and beyond are welcome. Your info will never be shared and these questions are solely motivated by our nosy spy tendencies.
....and we have a winner! Our winner was JEAN from New Jersey! Jean entered in our comments section and most definitely prefers Candy Corn! While Mellowcreme Pumpkin may not approve, we were more than happy to see the piece of artwork go to such a sweet home!

# Which do you prefer: candy corn or mellowcreme pumpkins?
Candy corn, but then again, Harvest Mix is better!
# Fun-size candy bars: do they make you happy or leave you hungry?
Make me happy because I can have a variety for the price of one, which is good because they leave me hungry!
# Trick-or-treaters without costumes: give 'em candy anyway, or turn 'em away?
Ideally turn them away (cheaters!) but I really wouldn't turn anyone away because I don't have it in me!
# Halloween candy-eating method: eat it as fast as you can, or ration it out to last?
Prefer the latter, but because of lack of self control, it is usually the former!
# Favorite cold-weather beverage: hot apple cider or hot chocolate?
Hot apple cider in the fall, hot chocolate in the winter...BUT if I HAD to choose, probably the cider.
# Fall pie faceoff: apple or pumpkin?
Pumpkin!
1) I don't know what I perfer I guess it depends on my mood but if I had to pick on it would be candy corn.
2) They leave me hungry and wanting more which is probably why I dont eat just one.
3) I give them candy but make them feel guilty for not wearing a costume.
4) I start by rationing it out but that never works and just end up eating it faster then I would like to admit.
5) Hot chocolate with marshmallows.
6) Apple pie is my favorite fall pie.
# Which do you prefer: candy corn or mellowcreme pumpkins? Candy corn, but only the original ones.
# Fun-size candy bars: do they make you happy or leave you hungry? Hungry.
# Trick-or-treaters without costumes: give 'em candy anyway, or turn 'em away? Give them candy if they're kids.
# Halloween candy-eating method: eat it as fast as you can, or ration it out to last? Ration it.
# Favorite cold-weather beverage: hot apple cider or hot chocolate? Hot cider topped with whipped cream, drizzled caramel, and some cinnamon.
# Fall pie faceoff: apple or pumpkin? Pumpkin.
1. Candy corn - even though the pumpkins are more fun to decorate with.
2. Fun-size bars are perfect all year round!
3. I have to guess that I'd probably give them candy since I don't actually get trick-or-treaters where I live.
4. There are certain things I can't resist that go fast, the rest I ration.
5. Hot chocolate
6. Apple for pie, pumpkin for baked goods
Which do you prefer: candy corn or mellowcreme pumpkins?
LOVE Candy Corn!!!!
Fun-size candy bars: do they make you happy or leave you hungry?
LOVE them! I can eat different kinds without feeling as guilty :] I love everything bite sized hehe
Trick-or-treaters without costumes: give 'em candy anyway, or turn 'em away?
I'm a traditionalist and love seeing costumes... but if they come asking for candy I'll give it to them :]
Halloween candy-eating method: eat it as fast as you can, or ration it out to last?
I only save the candies that I love the most and give the rest away & I tend to eat the most the first night and then slowly ration it it.
Favorite cold-weather beverage: hot apple cider or hot chocolate?
OOOO. Hot chocolate. But I like it better snuggled up somewhere. Because, to me, a hot apple cider just hits the spot when I'm out wandering around. It's that cinnamon and sweet-tartness to it :]
Fall pie faceoff: apple or pumpkin?
PUMPKIN!!!..... altho it's a close call.. I'm just saying Pumpkin cuz I only have it around this time of year, as Apple Pie cravings are easier to fix year round :]
1) Candy corn or mellowcreme: candy corn all the way (I even use it in my kindergarten class for counting activities!)
2) Fun size candy bars are perfect- I don't get that icky-scrape-the-sweetness-off-the-tongue sensation that comes with eating regular sized bars.
3) Trick or treaters without costumes? I give them candy, but extra candy goes to those who are helping younger siblings go out for tricks or treats (my daughter dresses in costume with friends for their Halloween party, but takes our toddler trick or treating in plain clothes so he can get all of the attention).
4) I ration the candy- making it LAST- which also takes care of that icky-taste-in-mouth thing I mentioned earlier.
5) Favorite cold weather beverage? Hot chocolate, though I like it flavored with mint.
6) Apple or pumpkin pie? Why not both? Yes, and YES!

Halloween candy-eating method: eat it as fast as you can, or ration it out to last? ration, even sort it by type.

# Fun-size candy bars: do they make you happy or leave you hungry?
Make me happy :)

4. Ration away! Unless my husband is nearby... then you eat as fast as you can while it's still there.
5. Depends on my mood - they're equally yummy!

Which do you prefer: candy corn or mellowcreme pumpkins? I ACTUALLY CAN'T EAT EITHER BECAUSE I CAN'T HAVE GELITAN. :( I USED TO LOOOOVE CANDY CORN THOUGH.
Fun-size candy bars: do they make you happy or leave you hungry? I GENERALLY AM NOT SATISFIED WITH JUST ONE! TWO MAKE ME HAPPY.
Trick-or-treaters without costumes: give 'em candy anyway, or turn 'em away? TURN THEM AWAY! BRING ON THE CREATIVITY!
Halloween candy-eating method: eat it as fast as you can, or ration it out to last? I'VE ALWAYS BEEN ONE TO RATION SWEETS OUT SO THEY LAST ME ALL YEAR. THE RECESS CUPS AND HERSHY BARS JUST CAN'T BE RATIONED THOUGH.
Favorite cold-weather beverage: hot apple cider or hot chocolate?
HOT CHOCOLATE ALL THE WAY! ALL YEAR LONG! WITH PEPPERMINT.
Fall pie faceoff: apple or pumpkin?
THIS ONE IS REALLY HARD. I CAN HAVE A LOVELY APPLE ALL YEAR ROUND SO I CHOOSE PUMPKIN, BECAUSE THEY ARE SAVED SPECIALLY FOR FALL.
THANKS!! THIS WAS FUN. :)
1. candycorn!
2. they make me happy and if they leave me hungry i just eat another
3. turn them away, no reward without effort
4. ration by alternating between favorites and less desirable items. For example, eat two tootsie rolls for each snickers cube.
5. apple cider (or, preferably, gluhwein)
6. apple pie (though a very spicy and non-skin-top pumpkin might give apple a run for its money)
1. the mellowcreme pumpkins are the best
2. They make me happy because you can eat two or three 3muskateers and not be bad.
3. Give them one piece of candy but not the best kind you have in your bowl.
4.Ration it out to last
5. Hot Chocolate is amazing but the smell of hot apple cider gets me everytime.
6. Pumpkin
-not a fan of either, but i find the pumpkins more tolerable
-leave me hungry!! i end up eating more than a full size candy bar would have been in the first place
-turn 'em away!!
-trrrrrry and ration it out...or just eat it all so have an excuse to hurry back the day after halloween to catch all the amazing sales on it at the store :)
-irish coffee, i mean hot chocolate...
-trick question, pecan
Mellowcreme pumpkins rock! I think I've eaten two bags already!
Fun-size candy bars make me happy but when I look down and realize I've eaten four of them, I'm not so happy anymore!
Well, I would probably feel weird turning them away so I'd probably begrudgingly give them candy anyway. That said, I haven't had a single trick-or-treater in four years so I'd probably just be happy to get anybody!
When I was a kid, I rationed that stupid candy all the way to Easter. Now, I just want it to go away so I chow down!
My favorite cold-weather beverage is hot chocolate, but it's a tough call!
Apple pie all the way! I love it with caramel pecan topping!
