Cake Poll: Fall Treats!
Saturday, October 11, 2008
Sure, the days are getting shorter and cooler, but they're also getting sweeter. Halloween is just around the corner, a sweet kickoff to what promises to be a fall and winter full of pies, puddings and wonderful holiday treats.
And in celebration of all of this sweetness, this month's Cake Poll focuses on fall treats! The lucky winner will receive an original Cakespy watercolor depicting L'il Cuppie being chased by ghosts (pictured top)--looks like they didn't want to share their candy!
How do you enter? Just answer the below questions to be entered in the running! Responses may be entered in the comments section or emailed to jessieoleson@gmail.com.
- Which do you prefer: candy corn or mellowcreme pumpkins?

The fine print: The poll will be closed at 12 p.m PST on Friday, October 17. As usual, the winner will be chosen at random. Entries from the US and beyond are welcome. Your info will never be shared and these questions are solely motivated by our nosy spy tendencies.
....and we have a winner! Our winner was JEAN from New Jersey! Jean entered in our comments section and most definitely prefers Candy Corn! While Mellowcreme Pumpkin may not approve, we were more than happy to see the piece of artwork go to such a sweet home!

Apple, definitely apple. I worship apple pie.
Which do you prefer: candy corn or mellowcreme pumpkins? Actually even though Mellowcreme's appeal did tug at my heartstrings :), I would have to answer not a fan of either.
Fun-size candy bars: do they make you happy or leave you hungry? Love them, portion control made easy
Trick-or-treaters without costumes: give 'em candy anyway, or turn 'em away? Depends on the age. Kids I give them candy anyways, not everyone sews or can afford store bought, teenagers better come dressed up though if they are still trick or treating.
Halloween candy-eating method: eat it as fast as you can, or ration it out to last? Ration. My thighs thank me for this response
Favorite cold-weather beverage: hot apple cider or hot chocolate? Honestly probably hot apple cider especially with lots of spices
Fall pie faceoff: apple or pumpkin? Apple all the way if it has a decent crust.
1. You know - I've never had a mellowcreme pumpkin. Neither they nor candy corn are big out here in Australia - mainly because halloween isn't a big thing out here. However, I have tried candy corn..so I'll have to say that, coz I haven't tried the other.
2. They leave me hungry...unless there are multiple fun-size bars - then I don't have the hunger problem :)
3. We never get trick-or-treaters at our place. So we don't give out any candy (not that we ever have much, if any, in the house!)
4. Well, I don't have a halloween candy-eating method - I just have my regular candy-eating method. Eat as much as I can, then leave the rest for later. :P
4. Never had hot apple cider (yes I know, I need to come over to the US and try all these halloween/autumn foods). I love my hot chocolates...so that'd be my answer.
6. I lurve my apple pies!! Again, never tried pumpkin pie... yes, I know..shame on me!! I think someone from the US needs to sponsor me to come over and learn your seasonal delicacies! :)
Which do you prefer: candy corn or mellowcreme pumpkins?
Neither. I'll go with the consensus, candy corn.
Fun-size candy bars: do they make you happy or leave you hungry?
Happy.
Trick-or-treaters without costumes: give 'em candy anyway, or turn 'em away?
Give 'em candy anyway, everyone gets candy on Halloween.
Halloween candy-eating method: eat it as fast as you can, or ration it out to last?
Eat it as fast as you can.
Favorite cold-weather beverage: hot apple cider or hot chocolate?
Hot chocolate, but don't forget the whipped cream!
Fall pie faceoff: apple or pumpkin?
Both. If I have to choose, then apple, only because it's available year round. But I could also say pumpkin since it's only around in the fall and winter.
# Which do you prefer: candy corn or mellowcreme pumpkins? Mellowcreme pumpkins. If you bite the bottom off of two of them and then stick them together, well, you getter a bigger treat (probably bigger cavities as well).
# Fun-size candy bars: do they make you happy or leave you hungry? Happy! I've even started referring to elementary school kids as fun sized people so that I could like them more!
# Trick-or-treaters without costumes: give 'em candy anyway, or turn 'em away? Give it to them... at the end of the night when I have a ton of candy leftover I'm always bummed that more kids didn't get my scrumptious treats... if I give it all away, I'll be jazzed at the end of the night.
# Halloween candy-eating method: eat it as fast as you can, or ration it out to last? Eat it as fast as you can (additional reason to not have any in the bowl at the end of the night)
# Favorite cold-weather beverage: hot apple cider or hot chocolate? Mexican Hot Chocolate!
# Fall pie faceoff: apple or pumpkin? Anytime of year, apple. Though we have a local marionberry pear that almost beat out my apple pie love... the seasonal aspect of the marionberries is what kept me loyal.

1. the MC pumpkins, only because my local bakery puts them on top of their DELICIIOUS pumpkin cupcakes!
2. Fun-sized are evil. You end up eating a lot more than if you just got a full sized.
3. They wouldn't dare come to my house! (That's when the lights would go out!)
4. ration it. And actually forget about it until it's old and hard and gross. What can I say, I'm a salt girl.
5. hot apple cider. I love chocolate, but cider rocks.
6. oooh, that's tough. I love apple pie, but I'm going to say pumpkin. Less crust, more delicious innard goodness.
Oh noes! I can't believe I am too late to enter! I need to read my favorite blogs more frequently!
Still I will give you my 2¢:
Which do you prefer: candy corn or mellowcreme pumpkins? I like them both the same, the brown & tan ones are my preference! ^-^
Fun-size candy bars: do they make you happy or leave you hungry? Happy! Diabetics shouldn't have too much sugary goodness all at once...
Trick-or-treaters without costumes: give 'em candy anyway, or turn 'em away? Give it to them anyway, but if they're older kids, with a firm admonishment to try harder next time.
Halloween candy-eating method: eat it as fast as you can, or ration it out to last? I always try to ration it, but it often doesn't work...
Favorite cold-weather beverage: hot apple cider or hot chocolate? Hot cocoa!
Fall pie faceoff: apple or pumpkin?
Meh, I'm more of a *cake* person, but I'd take a sliver of each with some ice cream and or whipped cream please...
1. Mellowcreme pumpkin - more bang for your bite
2. Leave me hungry? Wait... Am I the only one that eats the whole bag?
3. Ummm... See number 2 - there isn't any candy left to give away...
4. Technically both - I eat it as fast as I can, then I feel sick to my stomach, then I ration.
5. Hot Apple Cider until Thanksgiving. Once the Christmas decorations are up, it's all about the hot chocolate.
6. Pie? Who eats pie? I eat cake.
So, who won?
SWEET! Check out the updated post for the winner: JEAN from New Jersey!
