Cake Poll: Fall Treats!
Saturday, October 11, 2008
Sure, the days are getting shorter and cooler, but they're also getting sweeter. Halloween is just around the corner, a sweet kickoff to what promises to be a fall and winter full of pies, puddings and wonderful holiday treats.
And in celebration of all of this sweetness, this month's Cake Poll focuses on fall treats! The lucky winner will receive an original Cakespy watercolor depicting L'il Cuppie being chased by ghosts (pictured top)--looks like they didn't want to share their candy!
How do you enter? Just answer the below questions to be entered in the running! Responses may be entered in the comments section or emailed to jessieoleson@gmail.com.
- Which do you prefer: candy corn or mellowcreme pumpkins?
- Fun-size candy bars: do they make you happy or leave you hungry?
- Trick-or-treaters without costumes: give 'em candy anyway, or turn 'em away?
- Halloween candy-eating method: eat it as fast as you can, or ration it out to last?
- Favorite cold-weather beverage: hot apple cider or hot chocolate?
- Fall pie faceoff: apple or pumpkin?
The fine print: The poll will be closed at 12 p.m PST on Friday, October 17. As usual, the winner will be chosen at random. Entries from the US and beyond are welcome. Your info will never be shared and these questions are solely motivated by our nosy spy tendencies.
....and we have a winner! Our winner was JEAN from New Jersey! Jean entered in our comments section and most definitely prefers Candy Corn! While Mellowcreme Pumpkin may not approve, we were more than happy to see the piece of artwork go to such a sweet home!

Hmm..... these are really tough questions!!! Okay, here goes:
1. Definitely pumpkins. I never got into candy corn.
2. HAPPY!!!!!
3. Aw... give them candy! What do you take us for, monsters? ;)
4. I rationed mine out in order of preference when I was a kid -- I would always eat one candy that was my favorite and one second favorite, so that the favorites would last for a long time. I was a calculating kid!
5. Definitely hot chocolate. With softly whipped cream... and a sprinkle of cinnamon... mmmmm.....
6. Pie faceoff: oooh you are so mean to make us pick. I can't decide. Both??? Ok, if I HAD to pick, I think it would be pumpkin, just because I like to use apples in turnovers, not pies. But it's a trick question, you hear?
Thanks for this fun questionnaire!
1. candy corn.
2. Fun-size candy bars make me happy. Especially a half-dozen of them.
3. If they are children, I give them candy. If they are teenagers I give them toothbrushes and tell them to try harder next year.

Hey there,
I actually came across your blog when I was doing a search on Madeleines and came across this http://www.cakespy.com/2008/04/of-macarons-and-madeleines-french.html" REL="nofollow">post (you're Madeleine and Macaron characters are too cute!) Then I came across your blog again on Foodbuzz and added you as a friend. You have an awesome blog and the cutest artwork! As to your poll:
1. I guess Candy Corn, but that's because I never had a Mellowcreme Pumpkins. This has left me feeling like I'm missing out since they sound yummalicious! (Despite what seems to be an apparent Candy Corn majority from the comments)
2. Initially when I see them I get a child-like glee. However, after one, or two, or four I'm feeling a mixture of "Why am I not satisfied?" and "How many did I eat already?"
3. Probably Not. Unless of course they can come up with a really creative story like an alien stopping them on the street begging to borrow their costume for fear of the accursed Men In Black.
4. The eating of Halloween candy is a serious and meticulous process for me. First I tabulate the booty. Then I go through and eat the least appealing pieces first, saving my favorites to relish later.
5. Chocolate girl all the way. Although I may think twice if it's a spiked apple cider ;)
6. Oh, you're mean. This is one of those situations where if a gun was held to my face and I was told to choose or be shot, I may actually end up getting shot. I seriously can't do it. Although, you're asking now, it's October and all I can think about is pumpkins. But if you asked me some other time of the year I may be in a more apple mood. I guess it depends, but I really LOVE both.
Thanks for the great poll and great blog!

1. Which do you prefer: candy corn or mellowcreme pumpkins?
Candy Corn, although I do appreciate it when cream is spelled with 2 /e/s

They're sadistic little treats that trick you into thinking you're consuming far less calories than you are and justifying it by how tiny they are, even after you finish the entire bag...

Give them the death stare

Halloween candy-eating method: eat it as fast as you can, or ration it out to last? I'd love to say ration it out, but knowing myself, I'd eat them as fast as I can.
Favorite cold-weather beverage: hot apple cider or hot chocolate? That's a really hard choice! But I think hot chocolate has to be the winner (especially if it comes with marshmallows!).
Fall pie faceoff: apple or pumpkin? Apple, no doubt about it.
