The Secret Lives of Cupcakes

Um. What.

What do cupcakes do after the bakery closes? This is a question I think about a lot. I like to imagine them as little elves, getting to the real work of misbehaving and making magic after hours. And after I received this wonderful batch of cupcakes decorated to look like my Cuppie character at the CakeSpy Official Book Launch Party, made by New York Cupcakes and wearing wrappers by Bella Cupcake Couture, I had a chance to see for myself. Here's what they did:

This little cupcake took a ride on a pug...

Cupcake riding a pug!

This little cupcake helped me bake...

Cupcake helped me make frosting

This little cupcake considered cannibalism...

These look great!

These little cupcakes like Bakerella...

I just love Cake Pops!

This little cupcake didn't even know it was being hunted...

Pugs want cupcakes

This little cupcake dreamed of unicorns...

Cupcakes dream of unicorns

This little cupcake enjoyed the harvest...

Mellowcreme pumpkins surrounding cupcake

These little cupcakes hung out with some hotties...

This little cupcake made a big mess...

This little cupcake didn't fear death...

Naughty cupcake!

But perhaps he ought to have.

Goodnight, sweet cupcake

...the end.

AAAAH!

You would think so, unfortunately, sweets are my biggest weakness. So, I actually end eating up everything!! Of course, not before I take A LOT of pictures of said treat :)

I can't eat ginger bread houses, they are too cute!

NEVER. I don't think a sweet treat's cuteness could ever get in the way of me eating it.

um, no. unfortunately not. hunger always trumps cuteness. :)

Hmmm, this is hard but I think I would have a hard time eating a mini cupcake with silver glitter :)

Yes!!! I had frogs made out of icing on my wedding cake!!! They were so cute they made you smile! I have been married for 30 years and I still have a piece in my freezer!!

While they have definitely guilt tripped me, I have never met a sweet treat that I couldn't resist.

Yes. Hello Kitty shaped marshmallow lollipops I got as a gift, never ate them and then had to throw away because they got old and stale...

I once held on to a marzipan treat as a child for so long that it crumbled and nearly disintegrated before I could part with it. Perhaps that is my secret to dieting... make all the food too cute to devour?

This is a very tough question! I had to rack my brains. But! I have come to the conclusion that...there honestly has never been a time when a baked good has been too cute for me to eat it. I might take a picture of it, I might "awww" over it...but I always eventually succumb to the nom. This even includes the cookie my cousin gave me asking me to be her bridesmaid. My sister saved hers as a keepsake. I took a photo and ate the cookie with the sweet poem screenprinted on it. I am a heartless dessert consumer.
Simply put....no! The cuter, the better!

I once had one awesome lady send me a graham cracker sandwich (I can't remember what you call them in your book and my book is in MA and I am in CT) with an adorable Cuppie on it. I admit, it was way too cute to eat and it sat uneaten until it was both too old to eat or keep!

Nope. I may take a lot of photos first, but I always eat it.
However, I did go to a baby shower where the fondant animals on the cake were so cute the momma-to-be saved them and put them in the baby's room instead of eating them.

I don't think there has ever been a treat that has been too cute to not eat, but I have seen such great packaging that I buy two and keep one and open the other. ;)

NEVER. Though I will take photos from every angle before the first bite... and probably after.

I had a little pink sugar mouse that was extremely cute and I couldn't eat it! Not to mention the little green frog cupcakes with the pink filling.......ultimately they were yummy though....!!

So, I had a treat that wasn't too cute to eat, but too evil to eat! A friend came home for Christmas and had bought a piece of gingerbread in Poland that was iced with royal icing, then had a devil painted onto the icing! I was told that these were given to children to scare them into behaving before the holidays. The gingerbread was super light and I was told it was dry and bland, so I kept it for several years until it finally fell victim to an unfortunate moving incident.
