The Secret Lives of Cupcakes

What do cupcakes do after the bakery closes? This is a question I think about a lot. I like to imagine them as little elves, getting to the real work of misbehaving and making magic after hours. And after I received this wonderful batch of cupcakes decorated to look like my Cuppie character at the CakeSpy Official Book Launch Party, made by New York Cupcakes and wearing wrappers by Bella Cupcake Couture, I had a chance to see for myself. Here's what they did:

This little cupcake took a ride on a pug...

This little cupcake helped me bake...

This little cupcake considered cannibalism...

I made a Teddy bear out of fondant for a cake topper. He was so cute not only was I against anybody eating him, i seriously considered making another topper so I could keep him!

I have a tendency to save things if the are cute, prob. not food, but other cute thing and don't want to "use" them. I know, odd.

oh, the cutest little marzipan piglet that I bought in Germany years ago! I kept that piglet for years & he just kept getting harder & more shriveled looking. I just couldn't eat him!

Never has cuteness stopped me from fulliy enjoying a dessert!! I might delay to gaze on it and take some pictures of it before I start to devour it, but in the end I will always eat it. Wouldn't it be wrong to not eat it and then waste the food??

Yes. My grandma made this darling little chick cake pop that I just couldn't bring myself to eat. Unfortunately, my consumptive procrastination meant his eventual demise via the garbage can. :( What a sweet waste.

My first successful Jack-o-lantern style pumpkin bread. I was young, and was far too proud of the creation to eat the essence of it. Slowly I sliced off pieces from the back and sides, but I just couldn't eat it's sweet little face.

YES! Very beautiful edible chocolate flowers they still sit in the back of my freezer, they were a part of my daughters first birthday cake.

Yes, this actually happens to me way too much! A little chocolate molded into the shape of the Golden Gate Bridge is the first one that comes to mind, but trust me, there have been many more!

Nope... I've had some beautiful, elegant, seductive treats before but not cute. I'm glad you exist to open my tummy to new horizons. Now, will they be too good to eat? The beautiful, elegant, and seductive didn't fair well, so I doubt it.

Yes... I make chocolate boxes for weddings and gifts and there have been times that I couldn't eat them because they turned out so cute. I find that happens often at weddings but it is always the women you see leaving with the box, them men have already eaten thiers!! I couldn't eat your Cuppie - I would be sad if I did!!

Oh my gosh. First, the answer to your question - I have never NOT eaten a baked treat due to cuteness...but I often bring home leftovers from events where other people won't eat mine because they're "too pretty" - I think every good treat deserves to be eaten. :)

Second, I just had to share, I went into my favorite local shop in St. Louis and found CakeSpy socks!!!! I was so unbelievably excited to find a local place that carries at least a small bit of your adorable stuff. Now my business card holder matches my socks. Thanks for being awesome.

Almost, almost, were these teeny tiny button cookies I made too cute to eat, but they smelt soooo good I couldn't resist!! I love these cupcakes!! Especially the dreaming of unicorns one!!

I'm not going to lie, I have a really hard time with sugary-representations of living things. I feel really guilty about eating gingerbread men or chocolate bunnies, for instance. I have spared the life of particularly adorable cookies and chocolates several times.
