Sweet Video: Cupcake Eating Contest at CupcakeCamp Seattle
Saturday, April 10, 2010 So, as many of you know, I had the great honor of being a judge at the totally awesome CupcakeCamp Seattle (coordinated by CakeSpy sponsor Bella Cupcake Couture) today. Now, there will be more coverage of these monumentally delicious experience, but to whet your appetite, I'll start by posting this video of the cupcake-eating contest which capped the sweetest day ever. My apologies for the poor video quality, but I still think that you get an idea of the fascination and fervor which came along with this sugar-frenzied contest.

I was pretty disappointed today to be one of the people who stood in line and then was turned away when there were no more cupcakes. However, we did still donate the entry fee to the charity, so I am glad we were able to help out in that way. I hope they raised a lot of money. I have a suggestion for the organizers of next year's event: Limit the number of cupcakes each person can take (or maybe charge a small fee for each cupcake) so that more people have a chance to enjoy them. We saw people leaving with boxes of cupcakes.
Melanie: I do agree and think it was a learning experience for the planners too--I know that we all got some really good ideas on how to make it even more participant-friendly next year. The response (and amount of people who came!) was staggering. Although I must say...shame on the people with big boxes of cupcakes who didn't share!
Well, i know that in addition to the 150 that we brought, i also pulled out ALL of my extras (meant for my friends in town) plus the few on my table i had set aside to try and gave them to the kids in line, and some adults. So, some of us shared. As i looked around i did think it would be nice of those with so many to share what they had. We tried to lead by example!
man sometimes you just wish you lived in a different city! We need to have one in Philly!! looked like a great time!

I was so disappointed to get there and in line before noon and by the time we were halfway closer to the door, it was announced they were out of cupcakes. :( Even most of the cupcakes for theme judging were gone, so I can't wait to see pictures of those! (And boo to those selfish people I saw walking right past the announcing lady with boxes holding at least 8 cupcakes!)
We having something is here called The Vegan Bakeoff. Same problem here. Some people get tons, others none. The only good/bad thing is some stuff is really disgusting!
