Cake Poll: Baking Vs. Eating Preferences

Cake Poll Time!
It's July, and high time for a sweet giveaway! This time, Carolyn's Kitchen, a very cool company which designs retro-inspired aprons and kitchen accessories, has kindly donated one of their fashionable aqua cupcake aprons (retail value $42!) for the giveaway. I hope I don't need to tell you that this is a totally awesome prize.

How do you put your name in the running? It's easy. Just satisfy my curiosity about sweet preferences. Is what you like to bake the same as what you like to eat? Or are they different? Just answer the following in the comments section below and you'll be entered in the running!

*Please note this giveaway is only open to US Residents. The Cake Poll will close on Monday, July 6 at 12 p.m. PST, and the winner will be contacted for their size/address/info shortly thereafter. If you'd like to shop at Carolyn's Kitchen in the meantime, click here!

  • What is your favorite baked good or dessert to make?
  • What is your favorite baked good or dessert to eat?

Good luck!

CAKE POLL UPDATE: WE HAVE A WINNER! Christina of the lovely and amazing blog She Runs, She Eats was chosen at random from over 350 entrants (between emailed responses and comments). Thank you to everyone who entered!

My favorite to make - vegan chocolate sheet cake with googy chocolate icing (the bf has egg allergies, so this is perfect!)

my favrite to eat - creme brulee mmmmmmmmmmmmm baby! (and since the bf has egg allergies, I never have to share!)

My favorite to bake, I love making big tarts. Made a yummy cherry almond tart a while back. I love to eat them too but favorite to eat is a big slice of cold cake.

Favorite sweet to make: Chocolate chip cookies. I hunted for a long time to find the perfect chocolate chip cookie, trying any recipe I could get my hands on. I finally found what I was looking for in my local newspaper. When we were snowed in last December, I spent days making these cookies. So cathartic!

Favorite to eat: Cupcakes, most definitely. I love trying to get perfect bites of both frosting and cake. The mess is the best part. Plus, it's fun to try new cupcake shops and see what their creations look like.

My favorite thing to bake are my tasty lemon bars. And I really love to eat yellow butter cupcakes w/vanilla ice cream.

Of course I like to eat what I bake. What would be the point other wise? That said, I don't really bake anything that I don't like - carrot cake for instance. Wouldn't make one of those cause I wouldn't eat it :)

I LOVE that apron! I like to bake pies, cobblers, crumbles, things with fruit mostly. I like to eat them but only a little, I'm actually not a big sweets person. Maybe muffins are my favorite to eat.

I'm passionate about making cupcakes. The response to them is always positive and they seem to bring a smile to people's faces, old and young alike, which I love :)

Although I do enjoy eating cupcakes, I'm
an abolute fiend for a cookie, soft and chewy, or crisp and crunchy, preferably just-out-of-the-oven warm and with a big glass of ice cold milk - drool...

Ah, happy days :)

I just like to bake in general...so can't say I have a favorite item to make. I also like to eat baked goods in general, but I really do like cake with a good ol' buttercream frosting.

I like to make cookies and bars. I like to eat cookies and bars. I like to eat ice cream but I am not about to make it! I need instant gratification!

My favorite baked good to make is apple pie. I love making beautiful crusts using a variety of tools and colored egg washes. I actually don't like to eat apple pie though! :)

My favorite baked good to eat would have to be a classic chocolate molten lava cake with ice cream. Mmmm!!

I love to bake anything, especially things that I know other people will enjoy. To eat I particularly enjoy cheesecake and red velvet cake. Cakes are fun to decorate as well.

Bake= most any desserty treat.. I enjoy more the enjoyment of others who are enjoying the enjoyable treat! (I suppose if I had to pick one, it would be The Black Forest Cake!)

Eat= My cravings go with the season.. For this summer I've revisited on numerous occasions and love to eat a nice sweetly tart blackberry crumble with a scoop of lemon sorbet!

My favourite to make is layer cakes and tortes because of the wow factor but I actually hate icing so my favourites to eat are muffins and scones.

Bake - brownies (or anything I can make in one bowl!)
Eat - bread pudding (I'm too intimidated to make it myself!)
:)

I love to bake cakes and cookies and cupcakes - though to be honest my favorite part is the decorating!

My fave dessert, though, is a brownie still all warm and gooey from the oven. Is anything better than that??

I love baking cheesecakes. But the dessert I love to eat are cupcakes. Maybe if I win this apron I can keep practicing my cupcake baking skills. ;)

If I'm making it, there's a 99% chance I'm also eating it. :)
I do love to make brownies. I rock on making beautiful brownies from scratch with unusual flavor combos.
For actual eating, I'm going to have to go with cheesecake. I've never been able to make one of those picture-perfect lightly browned and uncracked cheesecakes, but I'll eat it anyway. And you can have so many different flavors! The people at my work don't care that my Bailey's Chocolate cheesecake isn't that pretty. The pan is always empty!

I love to bake muffins, especially blueberry ones on Sunday mornings!

My favorite dessert, however, is peanut butter-chocolate chip cookies, warm from the oven.... :)

I love to bake cakes, so I can decorate them! I love to decorate!

But what I love to eat is brownies!!! yummy!!

When it comes to baked goods, I love to make cupcakes.
But recently, I found out that I really like to make mints. I found a recipe that only calls for a few ingredients, and I can mold them into any shape.
I really love to eat cake or cupcakes of any kind. I've been on a red velvet kick lately, but I can always go for carrot or chocolate.
Thanks for doing giveaways like this!

I L-O-V-E cake! I love to bake them and eat them. I am trying to expand my horizons and cook thing that I may not particularly care to eat but other will enjoy.

July 1 | Unregistered CommenterIzzy22

If it's a baked good, I'll eat it! My problem is that i always have good intentions of trying new recipes, but always seem to resort back to my tried and true favorites.

July 1 | Unregistered CommenterEmmyLizzy

Lately, I've been on a biscotti kick.

Lately, I've been eating a biscotto at breakfast pretty much everyday since last week, and as a snack and dessert.

I like to BAKE: anything cake like. I like trying a different recipe every time and knowing the history or science behind each recipe.

I like to EAT: Cold chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream icing. Additional flavorings are okay for variation. I almost never make buttercream because it's too hot and humid in my kitchen most of the year to do anything but fret about the icing breaking. Plus baked goods are always better when someone else makes them. Wish I could find someone to do that to my specifications...

I mostly bake what I also like to eat: cookies, quick breads, and pies. I love eating and baking cakes, too, but usually only do them for special occasions.
