Cake Poll: WINter Wonderland Giveaway!
Halloween and the election are over...whew! And now, we're at the cusp of the sweetest season of the year, that series of two months where we eat copious amounts of delicious pumpkin pie and christmas cookies. That's right--November is the point of do not pass go, do not diet until New Year's.
And in celebration, we're offering a seasonal sweets poll! It's a bounty of five sweet prizes--for five separate winners! The following prizes are being offered:
- One lucky winner will receive a cupcake tote bag from Penguinbot! Love is in the details with this sturdy, durable vinyl tote--it's delicately reverse-appliquéd with an adorable cupcake, with the an inner lining of bright, contrasting pattered fabric. It's an extremely well-made bag which would usually retail for $50 (and would be worth every penny). Even if you don't win, you should probably buy one (you know, to help the economy); you can get one here.
- Two lucky winners will receive Elisa Strauss' new book, Confetti Cakes for Kids. Even without kids, these recipes are super fun and the pictures are amazing to look at!
- Two winners will receive a pack of Cakespy Holiday notecards! Each pack includes an assortment of cards which are guaranteed to make this the sweetest holiday season ever!
What do you have to do to enter? Don't worry, it's easy. All you have to do is answer the following two questions.
1. What is your favorite Thanksgiving dessert?
2. What is your favorite Christmas cookie?
But wait, there's more! If you copy and paste (or include a link to) a recipe for either of your responses, you'll be entered into the drawing twice! That's right...double your chances of winning!

My favorite Thanksgiving dessert is my trademark caramel apple cheesecake.
My favorite Christmas cookies are Walnut Shortbread balls. They are so easy and so light.
Ingredients
8 oz butter
4 tbsp Sugar
1 cup ground walnuts
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
Mix ingredients and form into balls. Roll in powdered sugar and bake at 325F for approx 25 minutes. When cool, roll in powdered sugar again.
for Thanksgiving I always make Ina Garten's Pumpkin Banana Mousse Tart: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/pumpkin-banana-mousse-tart-recipe/index.html.
Favorite cookie is, sorry, I know it's Jewish, ehhh, Rugelach. (but Jesus was originally Jewish, no?). Becuase I LOVE cake, and this is the only cookie I will ever choose over cake. Recipe is from Martha's Baking handbook.
My favorite Thanksgiving dessert is Pumpkin Crisp--yummmmm.

Thanksgiving dessert...pumpkin crunch cake. The one with the yellow cake mix, pecans, and lots of butter on top.

Christmas cookie...Amish sugar cookies from a store near my parents house.
1. Thanksgiving dessert: Smuckers Caramel Pecan pie. I'm not sure why I love this pie so much. Maybe because it's easy. Maybe because I also like to drizzle dark chocolate across the top. Mmm!
Recipe link: http://www.smuckers.com/sk/recipes/desserts/caramelpecanpie.asp
2. Shortbread. I used to just press the dough into the bottom of a pie pan, but now I have two different shortbread molds. This online recipe is the closest to the one I actually use. Just three ingredients (use the freshest butter you can get) and that's all one really needs: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Scotch-Shortbread-Cookies/Detail.aspx
Adding another comment (but not trying to get multiple multiple chances to win...honest!) because I wanted to offer also, in addition to easy shortbread with only 3 ingredients, an entire story that goes with a much longer and different cookie recipe.
Danish brown cookies. The recipe makes a gajillion of them that will last indefinitely in an airtight container: http://www.owlchick.net/2001/12/cookies
I didn't mark these as my favorite as I don't get to make these every year; they take time. But I do love them and wanted to share the story.
I love pumpkin pie, but recently I tried the Pumpkin Roll. And Its fantastic. That is my new favorite Thanksgiving dessert. I cant wait to make more of that.

My favorite cookie would have to be the Snickerdoodle.

1. Oh, it would have to be my mom's pumpkin pie. I know it's just the Libby's canned pumpkin recipe with a bunch more cinnamon, but it's the tradition and love that makes me clamor for it. Of course, with whipped creme.
2. Hmm. Again, my mom's doing here. Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without those delicious buttery Spritz that are piped out of the cookie gun. It might look like a caulk gun, but it puts our pure happiness. And Spritz just melt in your mouth!
My favorite Thanksgiving dessert is apple pie, and for Christmas I have to give a shout-out to gingerbread cookies! Here's a good-looking recipe from Martha:

1. My mom's gooey Pecan Pie
2. Spritzer Cookies!
Favorite Thanksgiving dessert would be apple pie with chocolate ice cream - what can I say? Dessert without chocolate just isn't dessert.
Favorite Christmas cookie would be Peanut Butter Balls:
CHOCOLATE COVERED PEANUT BUTTER BALLS
2 c. peanut butter (natural style)
1 lb. powdered sugar
1 stick butter
3 c. Rice Krispies (you can add more if you want)
Mix well. Make into small balls. Chill thoroughly.
In top of double boiler melt:
1 (12 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
1/8 of a cake of paraffin (keeps them shiny)
Using spoons, dip ball into melted chocolate and place on tray. Chill.
Ooooh, how fun...and yummy! I'm loving all the recipes posted!

Pecan pie is my favorite thanksgiving pie (although cherry pie is my favorite pie in general).
Xmas cookies? I didn't know there was such a category. I've been living in a bubble I guess. I think something with chocolate would be my favorite. Are there xmas cookies with chocolate? Again, I'm clearly clueless :)
