Cake Poll: Love and Chocolate!
Wednesday, February 11, 2009
How time flies! It's been a while since our last Cake Poll, so we're making up for it by offering a very sweet treat: an original (not a print!) Cakespy watercolor! The watercolor (shown top) will come in a 4x5 inch frame and will go to just one lucky winner. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment with your responses to the below poll, centered around the star of all February sweetness: chocolate! Here goes:
- Chocolates for Valentine's Day: cute or cliché?
- The chocolate box: which flavor would you rather leave for others?
- Milk chocolate: amateur hour or respectable citizen?
- Chocolate in savory foods (mole sauce, etc): awesome, or awful?
- Hot chocolate: with or without marshmallows?
- Chocolate-flavored or scented body products: ooh, or eww?
- What's your favorite chocolate dessert?
The poll is open for anyone (US and international!) to enter; the deadline is 12 p.m. PST on Saturday, February 14. The winner will be announced shortly after!

What's your favorite chocolate dessert? chocolate soup with banana fritters
1. Chocolates for Valentine's Day: cute or cliché? Depends on how good it is. Not too long ago I would have said "tres cliche!" but there's a gourmet chocolate shop near where I just moved called "Chocolate Springs". Our joint present to each other this year is for my husband and i to go there, buy about 10 chocolates (they're pricey) and pig out together. Chocolate is always better shared, but is BEST when shared with someone you love. (Long winded answer... sorry!)
2. The chocolate box: which flavor would you rather leave for others? Chocolate with fluffy chocolate filling. Bleh! Uninteresting! Next!
3. Milk chocolate: amateur hour or respectable citizen? I'm all for very dark or white. Milk is rarely mind blowing. Any recommendations?
4. Chocolate in savory foods (mole sauce, etc): awesome, or awful? Never had it. A trip to California is coming though and I am SO ready for authentic mole!
5. Hot chocolate: with or without marshmallows? Homemade marshmallows and Chambord Liqueur. *dies*
6. Chocolate-flavored or scented body products: ooh, or eww? Generally no, but the aforementioned chocolate shop sells a "body butter" that is cocoa powder and cocoa butter (edible and moisturizing!) and it's amazing!
7. What's your favorite chocolate dessert? Chocolate turtle cheesecake comes to mind first, so it's the winner for this survey. :-)
1. can be cute. but better is homemade cupcakes!
2. i like them all.
3. dark chocolate kicks milk chocolate's butt.
4. so awesome!
5. without marshmallows. one food i have never been a fan of (also lots are made w/ animal gelatin-ew)
6. chocolate lotion--butter me up, baby!
7. it's a tie between brownies and chocolate cupcakes :)
1.Chocolates for Valentine's Day: cute or cliché? [I'd say cliche, esp. the ones that just change the packaging but its still the same chocolate inside]
2.The chocolate box: which flavor would you rather leave for others? [I usually leave the ones with the fruit things inside]
3. Milk chocolate: amateur hour or respectable citizen?[there are definitely some respectable ones out there]
4. Chocolate in savory foods (mole sauce, etc): awesome, or awful?[I honestly prefer my chocolate in my dessert]
5. Hot chocolate: with or without marshmallows? [does it really matter? i like it either way]
6. Chocolate-flavored or scented body products: ooh, or eww? [i'd say eww. i just don't believe that you should smell like your favorite food]

1. Cliche, but still awesome (it's a cliche for a reason!)
2. Anything citrusy. I just cannot get into having orange in my chocolate.
3. I wouldn't give it as a gift, but it's a loyal standby - just like I wouldn't serve PB&J at a dinner party, but it doesn't mean I don't love eating it myself!
4. I've never tried, but it kind of sounds revolting.
5. With! I use marshmallow fluff - it melts more evenly across the top.
6. I think any food-scented beauty product is gross. Flowers are for my body. Chocolate is for my face.
7. Chocolate cake - either in batter form, or breakfast the morning after. I always love cake best the morning after.
