Taking It To the Sweet: All The News That's Fit To Eat and a Sweet Giveaway

Fact 1: CakeSpy Loves to bake.

Fact 2: CakeSpy is a prolific baker.

Fact 3: CakeSpy Loves mischief.

It may not be scientific or anything, but what all of these facts add up to is generally lots of fun. Here's how it went down last night.

Now, it is true that I had recently made truffles, gooey butter cake, and millionaire's shortbread for various baking experiments and projects, but when I received a parcel of the new Naturally Nora cookie mixes, I couldn't help but bake up a batch or two.

The chocolate chip cookies were my quarry, and I made two batches: one "plain", and one with two tablespoons of peanut butter added. The cookies came out quite nicely, I think, with a nice, nugget-y look and a soft on the inside, lightly crispy on the outside texture. The peanut butter, while not necessary for deliciousness, sure didn't hurt things (does it ever?).

But now I had a problem: a cookie surplus!

Luckily, this is, as problems go, not such a bad one, so I decided to share my sweet bounty with the world at large. Yup: time to Take it to the Sweet!

and so I put the cookies in sweet twosomes in bags, tied them with ribbon, and wrote sweet little notes to go along with them.

and then I decided on the best place to have a positive and sweet impact: the newsstand! Why? Well, the news can be--how do we say, kind of a downer--so this seemed like a natural and especially good place to brighten someone's day. I think that even if the finder might not be brave enough to eat these mystery cookies, the fact that they found them might just, you know, kind of give them pause in their everyday life, add a sweet aspect to their day, and at least give them a good story.

I chose this lineup on 15th Avenue East because it was under a streetlight and just seemed like a nice little row.

I put some cookies inside of each box, but in the case of USA today, which had not yet been stocked, I put it on the outside, near the payment slot--maybe it would brighten the night of the newspaper delivery-person?

Here's proof that Tom Skerrit loves cookies:

I thought this one, on top of Seattle Weekly, worked especially well.

So there you go--even the news can be made sweeter!

Have a totally sweet day, love CakeSpy.

P.S. Giveaway Alert! Naturally Nora has also kindly offered up a sweet giveaway! Want to win some cookie mix? Sweet! To enter, simply leave a comment below (US only, giveaway closes next friday, May 27 at noon PST) or on the CakeSpy Facebook Page saying how you'd make the world (or maybe just a friend's day) sweeter with these cookies!

That's so cute! Whenever I'm trying out a new recipe or have a surplus from stress baking (oops), I try to drop them off at my mom's school. Who more than teachers deserve a little extra sweetness? :)

I would share these with my preschool students. Maybe we'd have a cookie making lesson and then get to eat them!

I'd bring 'em into work to feed my coworkers during our next fund drive. We need the energy to keep us going!

How delightful!
I'd love to throw a bed-side tea & cookies party for a dear friend of mine that, though she gets the great majority of her energy from being social, now has mobility problems that prevent her from seeing all her friends as she'd like.
I think it would be lovely to bring her buddies to chat and giggle at her side. This would be a great addition/excuse!

By the way, it was your fierce cookie cake pie (was thinking that would suit my mobility-challenged buddy, too!) that brought me to you recently. I've been enjoying reading through the rest of your blog! Keep up the dirty work of deliciousness!

Mmmmm cooookies! I would make these cookies and bring them to a bar crawl I'm attending, and hand them out as we crawl. Naturally, we would eat some along the way too :)

I work in an office with a bunch of dudes, and it is usually pretty masculine and intense in here. If I won the cookie mix, I would bake up some delicious cookies and bring them into the office, hopefully bringing a smile and some happiness into the manly work day! I think they would love it (and by extension, me!)

What a super idea! I've made my friend chocolate chip cookies and brought them over to her (still warm!) when she was feel down. Nothing says 'you're special' like a good cookie!

Your post made me smile =) We're going camping for the first time in a few weeks with neighbors - they'd the entire group's trip sweeter!

So sweet! I love to surprise others with cookies, breads, and generally yummy sweet stuff. A friend dropped by last week with a box of delicious cookies: chocolate M&M, White chocolate chip with dried cranberries, and chocolate chip, and they were divine. I love it when others share their surplus with me!
I am a first grade teacher with 28 students and no air conditioning. I would love to make the cookies into ice cream sandwiches to share with all the other hot teachers!

I would bring them to school as an end of the year present for my teachers!

I am constantly baking, just to try new recipes and take a break from all the stressful things I do. When I have goods that I just can't eat by myself, I always bring them to school to pass out to my peers because no one appreciates food during the day quite like hungry teenagers, and the little surprises always make everyone smile. :)

I would bring the cookies to work for a Sunday surprise.

I'd bake a batch and mail them to my boyfriend who is 1000 miles away. I always send him a care package every few months with TONS of baked goods and homemade pancake and cobbler mixes :)

I would UPS some to my sister who moved several states away last summer! It would totally make her day! And then I would divy out the remaining leftovers between my foodie friends, which includes my freezer, my parents, my co-worker Tanya and my former co-worker Emily! They always get to reap the rewards of my experimental bakings!

I would probably make the cookies for my coworkers. I work with a bunch of guys and they love sweets.

I would love to make these cookies! I am always taking cookies to my friends when they are sick or upset. In fact, they call me the Cookie Queen!
May 20 | Unregistered CommenterMisty Moody
I would take them to a friend's workplace for all of them to share because they have been very busy lately getting ready for convention season.
