CLOSED: United We Bake: A Totally Sweet United Cakes of America Giveaway!

America's about to get sweeter.

That's right, friends--it's time for a totally sweet giveaway!

This time, it's a super-exciting one: three lucky winners are going to win a copy of the delightful new book by Warren Brown (you may know him as the kind-of-a-big-deal owner of the Mid-Atlantic sweet empire CakeLove), United Cakes of America: Recipes Celebrating Every State, in which you'll be treated to many, many delicious cake recipes inspired by different regions of the USA.

How do you get yourself in the running?

It's easy. Just share your favorite regional cake recipe! It can be from the state or region you're in currently, or perhaps the place you grew up, or maybe just a place that has special meaning for you. Be sure to specify the region and why it has special meaning for you! You can either link to the recipe, or simply copy and paste the entire recipe in the comment section.

The fine print: the giveaway will be open through next Friday, July 9th, at 12pm PST; the winners will be announced as soon as they have been contacted and their information has been confirmed (usually within a day or so). US residents only this time, please! Oh, and P.S. if you can't wait for a sneak peek of the book, check out some extras (videos, how-tos) here; and check out the recipe for Hartford Election Day Cupcakes I tried from the book here!

My mom got the recipe for this Chocolate Cherry Cake on a frightening bus ride from Boston to Philly - at least something good came of it! We'll call it a northeastern cake recipe. It's immensely easy to make, unbelievably moist and delicious.

Chocolate Cherry Cake
1 box chocolate cake mix
1 large can cherry pie filling
1 tsp almond extract
2 eggs
semisweet chocolate (for melting overtop) (optional)

Combine cake mix, cherry pie filling, almond extract, and eggs. Beat with electric mixer or in stand mixer until cherries are mostly pureed. Bake according to cake mix instructions. (This works best in 1 rectangular pan.)

After cake is cooled, drizzle with melted semisweet chocolate. Try to restrain yourself long enough to let the chocolate harden :)

Sander's Bumpy Cake. In suburban Detroit, there is/was a chain of ice cream shops called Sander's. They sold a chocolate cake with rows of buttercream covered in chocolate. It's been dubbed the "Bumpy Cake". Delicious and definitely a childhood favorite. Thanks for the giveaway.

My favorite regional cake is very southern, chess cake. This is a treat my grandmother makes at holidays or if she knows she will have company. I know it must be southern since my midwestern friends have no idea what type of cake I'm talking about.

Chess Cake

1 box yellow cake mix
1 egg
1 stick butter (½ c)

Mix together (mixes up stiff). Pat into 9x13 inch pan.

8 oz cream cheese, softened
3 eggs, beaten,
1 box confectioner’s sugar (1 lb)

Mix cheese, eggs and sugar. Pour over cake mix. Bake at 325 for 60 minutes.

Hi,
My cake is very sentimental, it is a cake that my grandfather used to make for me - It is from PA dutch country and is so darn good. I still make it often and every time I take a bite I am reminded of what a kind wonderful man my "POP POP" was. He has long since passed, but his love is with me everyday! I found this link for a pretty authentic recipe. Please try it and see if you agree!
Thanks for the giveaway and the chance to tell my story and remind me just how much my family truly means to me.
