Cake Byte: Layer Cake Shop Opens!

Update: Based on reader responses to this post I have followed up here--please weigh in!

It's a funny thing about baking supply shops. They always feel so cramped and dark to me--rarely do they seem as bright and happy as the cakes the supplies are used to make.

So it was a delightful surprise to receive an email announcing a new online retailer, Layer Cake Shop, which specializes in all manner of supplies for making sweets, from specialty cupcake cups to cookie cutters; a dazzling spectrum of food colorings and sprinkles and other decorations; they even have a respectable selection of packaging supplies, and even cute little DIY kits which make great gifts. Everything is beautifully and brightly displayed in this online boutique; it's definitely one to bookmark.

Yup: the internet just got even sweeter!

Layer Cake Shop, online at layercakeshop.com.

Glad everyone else loved discovering the shop as much as me! Anonymous, thanks for pointing out Bake it Pretty, I don't believe I'd seen that shop before!

Actually, Layer Cake Shop is a blatant rip-off of Bake It Pretty. You can read about it here: http://everylittlething.typepad.com/my_weblog/2009/07/questions-answers-part-35-a-detour.html and here: http://www.supernaturale.com/glitter/viewtopic.php?t=45897

Please DO look into the story behind the LCS (I don't even want to say their name!) blatant imitation of Bake It Pretty. We're all just doing the best we can to get by in this world, but copying someone else's ideas and styles is NOT the way to do it. The Bake It Pretty store and style represents several years of creativity AND hardwork. The LCS crew should be ashamed of themselves and seriously re-think their business model.

WOW! What a great shop! Makes me want to start baking or at least have a birthday party!

Please do read that info on the Layer Cake Shop. And then go over to visit Amanda at Bake It Pretty and never look back. Amanda's shoppe is one of my best shared secrets. Ever. And it mortifies me to know end to see someone taking business from her so selfishly. Amanda knows that selling baking decor isn't exclusive only to her, but the kits and things she makes and the time she puts into designing her product shots and things are sadly being blatantly copied. I love cakespy and I would hate to see something like this happen to you, just as I hate to see it happening to Amanda. I'm not "real life" friends with her, but a loyal customer and I would absolutely hug her if I ever met her in real life :O)

Yes, please consider deleting this post, or at least updating it so people have the correct view of what is really going on. It takes only a second to see who copied who here, and we need to stand up for the hard working people, the ones with the original ideas, the ones who have spent the time and effort to try to make it in this niche market. Like I read from someone else; as soon as you let one person get away with copycatting someone else, then it becomes ok for everyone. And it's SO not OK. Amanda paved the road for this, and LCS has so obviously gone for the confusion angle to steal customers. They should find their own way in this indie marketplace. And we all need to stick together and support the true indie shop owners.

I think this post should be deleted. its not like they sell the same products, LCS is copying every idea and KIT of Bake it Pretty. Unnacceptable, and so sad that the girl behind LCS can't come up with her own ideas... one word for LCS: KARMA!!!!!

I'll never shop with LCS EVER!!!!! They clearly copied Amanda's verbage!!! All they did was pull out their Thesaures for some new words....They copied her layout, pics, everything!!! SMDH!!!! (Shake My Damn Head) SHAME ON THEM!
