{Bitter}Sweet: A Cake Poll and Cakespy Book Giveaway!

Cake Poll and Giveaway!

It's that time again: our monthly cake poll and giveaway! Our giveaway this month is pretty awesome--the winner will receive a copy of our first ever book--an illustrated collection of Cakespy illustrations entitled {Bitter}Sweet: A Study in Contrasts. Each page has a "sweet" scene (cupcakes acting cute!), contrasted with another "bittersweet" image (cupcakes in peril!) on the accompanying page! It's a sweet collection including 32 pages, packed with illustrations in full color--perfect for any lover of cake, illustration, or, you know, both. Learn more about the book here.
Cover for Books I'm making!!!My books!
As for the poll? This time, we've got cake on the brain! It must be the time of year--Cakespy's birthday is coming up on August 1--we already have all sorts of birthday cake visions floating in our mind!
CAKE POLL: CAKE PREFERENCES!
  1. What's the best time of day to eat cake?
  2. What's your favorite beverage to accompany cake?
  3. There's a plate of frosted cupcakes--all the same flavor--but frosted in pink, white, yellow, blue, green, and lavender. Which would you reach for first?
  4. On a sheet cake: Do you prefer and end, middle, or corner piece?
  5. Cake a la mode (with ice cream on the side): simply perfection, or simply too much?
  6. Grocery store birthday cakes: guilty pleasure, or simply never?
  7. Do you like your cake cold, room temperature, or warm?
  8. When baking a cake or cupcakes, which part of the process do you like best: the baking, or the decorating?
  9. What kind of cake do you like to make (or eat) for your most special occasions?
How can you put your name in the running? It's easy! All you need to do is this:
  • To satisfy our nosy tendencies (we are spies, after all), fill out the above Cake Poll! You can leave your responses in the comment section, or send your responses via email to jessieoleson@gmail.com.
  • At 12pm PST on Wednesday, July 9, the Cake Poll will be closed. The winner will be chosen at random, not based on their responses. The prize will then be shipped to the lucky winner within 48 hours, via the most economical method.
  • As for our fine print: The results of this poll will be used for entertainment and Cake Gumshoeing purposes only; we may summarize the results of this poll in upcoming posts. Your private information will not be shared with any outside parties. Also, we've elected to leave the cake poll open to all US Territories, Canada and abroad--so even overseas cake enthusiasts can take part!

Squeaking in my the skin of my teeth!

1. ALL day, literally. I {heart} cake!

2. Coffee or Diet Coke (cancels out the cake's calories, LOL)

3. Lavender, absolutely!

4. Middle, unless I *really* like the frosting and then I want a corner piece!

5. Most of the time I find it simply too much. But birthday cake *demands* ice cream. ;)

6. Sometimes, but I prefer homemade.

7. Room temperature

8. I'm learning to like the decorating, but I love the baking, too.

9. Carrot or Spice (my wedding cake was spice since my caterer nixed carrot)

1. For breakfast,it's a traditional meal in my family.
2.Milk. Ice. Cold. Milk.
3.Pink but, eventually I'd eat all of them.
4.Usually the middle because theoretically, you get more cake/less icing per bite.
5.With a simple cake it can be heaven, but with, say, a fruit filled cake, that's a little much. It takes away from the cake's individuality.
6.They're not horrible, but after an hour they get crusty for some reason..freaky.
7.I like cold chocolate cake and fruit cakes, room temperature white and yellow cakes and ice cream cakes because it makes the ice cream a little melty and softens up the cake (yum) and warm cakes? only if it's confetti cake.
8.You can't separate the two, I get so excited when I'm baking and I start to brainstorm about the decorations so for me it's the whole experience.
9.My great grandmother makes this awesome white cake with a barbie-doll in the middle and uses the icing to make it look like the cake is just a huge dress for the doll. It makes me feel so special.

What's the best time of day to eat cake? After dinner.

What's your favorite beverage to accompany cake? I usually don't drink anything, but I'd have to say milk.

There's a plate of frosted cupcakes--all the same flavor--but frosted in pink, white, yellow, blue, green, and lavender. Which would you reach for first? White.

On a sheet cake: Do you prefer and end, middle, or corner piece? The corner, unless there's a piece somewhere in the middle with tons of frosting [like the balloons on grocery store cakes]...i'm a frosting girl!

Cake a la mode (with ice cream on the side): simply perfection, or simply too much? Eh, too much for me.

Grocery store birthday cakes: guilty pleasure, or simply never? No thank youuu.

Do you like your cake cold, room temperature, or warm? Cool.

When baking a cake or cupcakes, which part of the process do you like best: the baking, or the decorating? Baking!

What kind of cake do you like to make (or eat) for your most special occasions? German chocolate. Or carrot cake!!

1. Late afternoon
2. Strawberry martini
3. Lavender is the first to go!
4. End piece please.
5. Ugh, too much. It's all about the cake for me.
6. Never ever!
7. Room temperature, mmm mmm mmm.
8. I like baking the best, the smell is so lovely.
9. It's a tie between two cherries: I love to make filled cupcakes. Black cherry-filled vanilla cake with rich vanilla frosting, or lemon chiffon cake with tart lemon filling and cherry frosting.

July 9 | Unregistered CommenterBrit

1. Breakfast time- hiding my head in the fridge so the kids can't see what I'm eating.
2. Depends on the cake (black coffee or black tea)
3. lavender (fer sure)
4. End piece, pretty please.
5. Simply perfection. I scream for ice cream. Really.
6. Not unless someone else buys it. They're usually so greasy they make me feel like I have to brush my tongue.
7. All three!
8. D to the E to the C to the o.r.a.t.i.n.g. It's fun!
9. Cheesecake. Hands down. And it's even better when made with homemade cream cheese.

1. Morning
2. Diet Dr Pepper
3. Lavender!
4. Middle definitely
5. Depends on the cake, but usually too much for me (unless it's a bday party)
6. Simply never!
7. Room temp
8. The baking
9. For other people, red velvet. For myself, chocolate with cream cheese frosting.

1. All day long!

2. Hot tea or hot coffee.

3. Pink, if for myself. Lavender, if for my bestest girlfriend Candyce!

4. The corner is the best!

5. It depends on the cake, but I don't remember ever turning down the option of adding ice cream to one.

6. A guilty...something. Albertson's bakeries has surprisingly good white/raspberry cakes when you need to grab one on the way to work for a co-worker's birthday. But I'd rather bake one whenever possible.

7. Yes.

8. The eating! I mean, the decorating!

9. Dark chocolate of some sort...lava cakes are awesome.

July 9 | Unregistered CommenterOwl Chick

1. When isn't the best time of day for cake? Breakfast or afternoon snack are especially good, though.
2. Coffee
3. Oh, pink, no question. After I ate the pink one, I'd eat the lavender one, too.
4. I want the corner with all the buttercream roses. I'm a frosting junkie.
5. No ice cream, please. It makes the cake soggy. I want cake or ice cream, not both.
6. Guilty pleasure... Publix has really good frosting.
7. Room temperature.
8. It's hard to say, I like both. But if I had to pick, decorating.
9. Chocolate cake with peanut butter icing.

July 9 | Unregistered CommenterPumpkin

1. Anytime!
2. Milk
3. Lavender
