{Bitter}Sweet: A Cake Poll and Cakespy Book Giveaway!

It's that time again: our monthly cake poll and giveaway! Our giveaway this month is pretty awesome--the winner will receive a copy of our first ever book--an illustrated collection of Cakespy illustrations entitled {Bitter}Sweet: A Study in Contrasts. Each page has a "sweet" scene (cupcakes acting cute!), contrasted with another "bittersweet" image (cupcakes in peril!) on the accompanying page! It's a sweet collection including 32 pages, packed with illustrations in full color--perfect for any lover of cake, illustration, or, you know, both. Learn more about the book here.

As for the poll? This time, we've got cake on the brain! It must be the time of year--Cakespy's birthday is coming up on August 1--we already have all sorts of birthday cake visions floating in our mind!
CAKE POLL: CAKE PREFERENCES!
- What's the best time of day to eat cake?
- What's your favorite beverage to accompany cake?
- There's a plate of frosted cupcakes--all the same flavor--but frosted in pink, white, yellow, blue, green, and lavender. Which would you reach for first?
- On a sheet cake: Do you prefer and end, middle, or corner piece?
- Cake a la mode (with ice cream on the side): simply perfection, or simply too much?
- Grocery store birthday cakes: guilty pleasure, or simply never?
- Do you like your cake cold, room temperature, or warm?
- When baking a cake or cupcakes, which part of the process do you like best: the baking, or the decorating?
- What kind of cake do you like to make (or eat) for your most special occasions?
How can you put your name in the running? It's easy! All you need to do is this:
- To satisfy our nosy tendencies (we are spies, after all), fill out the above Cake Poll! You can leave your responses in the comment section, or send your responses via email to jessieoleson@gmail.com.
- At 12pm PST on Wednesday, July 9, the Cake Poll will be closed. The winner will be chosen at random, not based on their responses. The prize will then be shipped to the lucky winner within 48 hours, via the most economical method.
- As for our fine print: The results of this poll will be used for entertainment and Cake Gumshoeing purposes only; we may summarize the results of this poll in upcoming posts. Your private information will not be shared with any outside parties. Also, we've elected to leave the cake poll open to all US Territories, Canada and abroad--so even overseas cake enthusiasts can take part!

What's the best time of day to eat cake? You mean there are specific times of day? All day... every day... is best.
What's your favorite beverage to accompany cake? Is it too cliche to say Diet Coke? Because that's what it is... Diet Coke or a latte. ;o)
There's a plate of frosted cupcakes--all the same flavor--but frosted in pink, white, yellow, blue, green, and lavender. Which would you reach for first? Blue.
On a sheet cake: Do you prefer and end, middle, or corner piece? corner...
Cake a la mode (with ice cream on the side): simply perfection, or simply too much? too much.
Grocery store birthday cakes: guilty pleasure, or simply never? guilty pleasure. I am partial to small cakes that they "say" feed 4... I say... 4 hours maybe and only if I'm taking my time.
Do you like your cake cold, room temperature, or warm? room temperature.
When baking a cake or cupcakes, which part of the process do you like best: the baking, or the decorating? decorating.
What kind of cake do you like to make (or eat) for your most special occasions? I have a cake pan that when you turn it upside down, there's a hollow in the top... so I like to make a chocolate cake, fill the hollow with a quick coconut mousse - coconut cream pie pudding and cool whip, sprinkle with sliced almonds and toasted coconut and chocolate shavings. Yummy! Almond roca cake! One of my friends at work asks for this cake for her birthday.
1. Breakfast! What a perfect way to start the day.
2. Soymilk (or coffee, if it's a less sweet cake)
3. blue!
4. corner
5. simply the best!
6. simply never (unless they are vegan!)
7. cold or room temp
8. decorating
9. white cake with fruit between the layers
1. Any time of day - it's ALWAYS the perfect time for cake!
2. Unsweet iced tea. That bitterness goes perfectly with the sweetness of cake.
3. White. There's just something 'classic' about white frosted cupcakes.
4. Middle, it always seems to be the fluffiest spot.
5. Too much! Good cake can stand on it's own.
6. Guilty pleasure (don't tell anyone!)
7. Depends on the cake. Breakfast type cakes I prefer warm. Ice cream cakes cold, of course! All others room temperature.
8. The decorating lets me show off my creative side. ^_^
9. Cupcakes! I can never get enough of them.
1. Morning, Noon & Night!!
2. Milk...always milk
3. White. For some reason I don't like colored icing...I'm always afraid it will stain my teeth.
4. Middle
5. Too much...if I do eat cake & ice cream together then they're in seperate containers. No soggy cake!
6. Simply never
7. Room temperature
8. Decorating
9. Pineapple Upside-Down Cake
1. There is nothing wrong with cake for breakfast!
2. Diet Dr. Pepper. I drink it with pretty much everything.
3. I'm thinking lavender. It's not often you see a pretty purple cupcake.
4. It has got to be a corner, a corner with a big buttercream flower on it. No flower? A side piece will do. It's all about the flower.
5. Simply perfection, I love a good piece of white birthday cake with some chocolate ice cream.
6. Simply never where I live although I hear Publix has some rockin' cakes.
7. Room temperature
8. The baking. I have no artistic ability whatsoever.
9. I make a pretty tasty carrot cake, if I say so myself.
1. 24/7
2. milk or coffee
3. Pink!
4. middle- makes for an even distribution of frosting
5. simply perfection
6. simply never.
7. room temp
8. def. decorating!
9. cupcakes, of course!
1. What's the best time of day to eat cake? 2 or 3pm -- after lunch but before dinner when your energy is being sucked out of you by work.
2. What's your favorite beverage to accompany cake? i think this depends on the cake, but i would go with milk or lemonade (sweet and sour flavor combo = yum)
3. There's a plate of frosted cupcakes--all the same flavor--but frosted in pink, white, yellow, blue, green, and lavender. Which would you reach for first? white. i think it makes me think that it's more 'real'.
# On a sheet cake: Do you prefer and end, middle, or corner piece? middle for cake, but corner for brownies...i like the crunchy parts.
# Cake a la mode (with ice cream on the side): simply perfection, or simply too much? perrrrrfect
# Grocery store birthday cakes: guilty pleasure, or simply never? no no no nononononononono no.
# Do you like your cake cold, room temperature, or warm? room temp is good for cake or warm, but cold is meh. but with pie it either has to be cold or hot, no warm. weird huh?
# When baking a cake or cupcakes, which part of the process do you like best: the baking, or the decorating? the baking for sure. i love the idea of being a chemist of sorts, carefully measuring and mixing.
# What kind of cake do you like to make (or eat) for your most special occasions? i make a super killer chocolate cake that is super moist and extremely delish plus it's super dark in color which i think is a nice change of pace for chocolate cake.
:) great questions!!!

Oh this is fun! Your book must be great!
1- Anytime really. But if someone forced me to choose I would probably say in the middle of the afternoon.
2- Nothing that gets in the way. Tea or water.
3- Maybe lavander. Isn't that a pretty color?

5- I love them both but will eat them separate.
6- I never buy them that's for sure. But if I'm invited to a party and if I'm served those kinds of cake I eat it.
7- Depends of the cake of course! If the cake as a frosting I like it cold, if it's a dense cake room temperature is better, but if it's a plainer cake I'll burn my tongue for it!
8- Both really, I couldn't possible choose.
9- There's an almond cake with chantilly that has been the cake for almost every birthday of mine, so I have a soft spot for that one!
