Triple Threat: The Cookie Cake Pie
Cookies, Cakes and Pies are basically the holy trinity of baked goods.
Separately, each is wonderful in its own way. Cookies and milk after school. Birthday cake. Pie at Thanksgiving.
But what if--just what if--all of this awesome could be combined into one singular sensation?
It's time to break out a seriously sweet triple play: the Cookie Cake Pie.
I wish I had a more clever moniker for you, but really, the name does say it all: it's a cookie and a cake within a pie. This treat embraces the idea that if some is good, more is wonderful; it weighs more than any I've ever held in my arms, and it packs much more of a sugary punch. Excessive? Perhaps. But everyone who tried it all but licked the plate clean.
Want one of your very own? Here's what you need to do.
Cookie Cake Pie
- A batch of cookie dough
- A single batch of cake batter (I'll be honest--I used Rainbow Chip)
- A single pie crust
- Enough frosting for a birthday cake
First, prepare one batch of chocolate chip cookie dough. You can leave this in the fridge or to the side while you prepare the rest.
Next, prepare a single pie crust and line it into a pie plate. I considered blind-baking it, but ultimately did not, and I thought it turned out fine.
Place the cookie dough inside of the pie crust and using your fingers or a spoon, spread it so that it evenly coats the bottom of the crust. Mine was about an inch thick; I had enough cookie dough leftover to make about three big cookies, or one massive cookie dough snack.
At this point, you might want to pre-heat the oven. I considered each of the three recipes (pie, cookie and cake) and chose an average of 350 degrees.
Let the cookie-filled pie crust rest for a bit while you mix up some birthday cake. If I'm to be completely honest here, I used Rainbow Chip cake. Yes, from a mix. It just felt right, and it added such a nice color contrast. Don't judge me.
Pour cake batter directly on top of the cookie dough til the pie crust is about 2/3 filled. The cake will rise, so you want to leave room for it. You will probably have leftover cake batter; why not make some cupcakes?
Put this monster in the oven and check after about 25 minutes. I kept on checking every 5 minutes and think it ended up baking for about 30-40 minutes total. I took it out when the cake was golden around the edges.
Let cool, and frost generously with buttercream frosting (mine was approximately an inch thick--this is not the time for moderation). Garnish as desired; I thought sprinkles were festive and pretty.

What a disaster!! The only way this recipe could work is if the crust and cookie dough is baked first before adding the cake batter. Even though I baked the thing 50 minutes, and the cake got very brown and slightly puffy, inside the cake was gloppy pudding, not cake-like. Big disappointment.
I disagree. The middle didn't bake all the way through, but no one cared about it. I made this for my sister's birthday cake and it was a huge success---gooey sweets are amazing. :) Thanks for the recipe!
I do not guess that each single student in whole world has a passion of essay thesis performing! Nevertheless, students that do not have writing skillfulness should use a support of great sociology essay writing service and be satisfied with a success.
I loved this dessert and so did my husband!! It took mine about 45 minutes to bake, but it as well worth the wait!!! Yum! Thanks so much for the idea!
@Kim - I'll bet your oven is too hot. Mine runs 25 degrees hotter than the dial, so my 350 is actually 375. I ruined a lot of stuff before I found that out.
This was a great recipe! I definitely did lower the temp a bit to be sure everything cooked evenly, but everybody loved it, and a little definitely went a long way. Thanks!
Wow!!! I can't wait to try this!!! I bet all that eat it just die in happienss!!! Can't WAIT!!!
Me and my boyfriend Stephen are gonna love this gooey surprise ;)
i'm making it right now! i can't wait for it to be ready :)
Oh man. It's real. I thought it was a myth. Oh, happiness!!!
Mines in the oven right now. I hope it turns out great!
A heavenly trifecta of yumminess! I can't wait to go to the grocery store for the fixings - thanks for the wonderful idea!
Great recipe. However, I had left over materials and tried making them as cupcakes and I think that they cook better and more evenly that way.
I hit the cupcake tray with a little butter cooking spray. Took the pie crust and thinly lined each cupcake hole. Then put in some cookie dough then put in the cake mix. I then cooked it on 325 until the tops were golden. The cupcake cookie pies were structurally unsound when hot, so I let them cool in the cupcake tray.
I like turtles.
I'll be making this for the next birthday around here. Thanks for the recipe!
i made this a few months ago, but with layers of nutella between the pie crust, cookie dough, and cake layers.
my mother called it sinful
it was devoured before the day was through
thanks for the inspiration!
How can I make the buttercream frosting?
I made it but everything was gooey! I used all the same things too! However i will try this recipe again..I will just need to play with the heat settings and times. If i have to cook it lower for an hour that would be fine because from what I could tell it would be so good! The part was that the top and sides were almost burnt! I have had this oven for only a couple months so i am still learning from it. lesson learned!
Wow! This cake looks absolutely delicious! My kids would love this :)
I attempted to make this a year ago for my boyfriend's birthday, and while it was delicious, it did become a bit of a gooey mess. I ended up freezing it and using it as ice cream topping, which it worked really well for. It's the bf's birthday today and I am going to attempt it again and play with the oven temp. Hopefully it'll be solid this time!
Very good. Lowered oven temp to 300 degrees and cooked about an hour. Tried making cupcakes with leftovers but were not as good. I recommend making two pies.
Hope you had plenty of milk to go with it...
This took SO LONG to bake--I think I actually kept it in the oven for like an hour and a half or something ridiculous, because the cake part just refused to solidfy. By that point, I was afraid that the pie crust and cookie would be rock hard, but the whole concoction actually turned out all right and was actually absolutely delicious :-). Will be making this again!
I sent this for my boyfriend in the mail as a surprise. He lives 2000 miles away. It baked perfectly and i froze it solid before sending it. By the time it arrived two days later, it was perfect for eating and my boyfriend's favorite treat so far!
I made this today! It was excellent. I had enough bater for 2 cake pies. I used the same cake bater, but frosted one w strawberry frosting and one with chocolate. Very yummy! Will make again!
